Today’s Throwback Thursday post was triggered by this week’s HIMYM S09E02 “Coming Back.” Ted’s promise to himself reminded me of one of my favorite songs, Michael Buble’s Haven’t Met You Yet. Do you know that song? You can watch the music video below.
The song is so Ted Mosby in that the singer is singing it to his future soulmate.
This is my favorite part:
I know, right? Awww! Sooo Ted!
So what makes that a throwback thursday, then? You ask, your eyebrows raised. Hold on, I was just getting to that, geez. It was because four years ago, we decided to make a music video of that song for our friend Tatsie’s birthday.
We used the song because it was her favorite too, and we asked our then flatmate Ervyn to act like the singer in the music video and lip synch to the song. And since the original music video was shot in a grocery store, well obviously we had to shoot ours there as well!
Did we rent a grocery store, get a permit to shoot there, and have it all to ourselves and all, you ask? Nope. We just walked in there and started filming, with all the other customers there and everything. Yes. Yes we did.
We tried to copy some of the scenes from the original music video but since these were from the days when we didn’t have smart phones yet, we couldn’t whip out the video to have a basis for comparison and had to do everything from memory. As the director slash camera man slash editor, I did the best I could.
Focus on name of grocery store? Check.
Grocery store location, leading man pushing a grocery cart? Check.
Extra twirls around in the middle of grocery store aisle? Check.
And for the finale – leading man sings in front of the cashier, and the cashier stares at him like he’s out of his mind? My leading man couldn’t find the guts to do it in the end, and as I scolded him, the cashier turned to me and said, “CANNOT TAKE PHOTO!” Oops. If she only knew everything we had already done inside! ๐
You can watch the entire thing below. I put it all together using iMovie.
