(1) You get to “taste life twice” thanks to your archives which allows you to relive memories.
I know everyone else takes pictures these days and can do that through those, too, but believe me, pictures do not capture everything. It amazes me how I can read my old posts and go, “This happened? I had completely forgotten about that!”
This blog is my brain’s back up disk.
(2) You learn skills that you would never have acquired otherwise.
I work in corporate finance where we are only taught the Microsoft tools and in-house systems, but this blog has made me learn html coding, photography, editing, marketing, SEO, and has improved my vocabulary.
(3) You have a fulfilling hobby.
When life is not so ideal, you need a hobby that will help you deal. For me, blogging is it. I find that when I’m stressed or depressed, blogging is a guaranteed way to make me feel better.
And even though I waste a lot of time on this hobby, I think the hours I spend on blogging are more productive compared to the same hours I would have spent on binge watching TV shows or scrolling through 9gag.
Aside from that, blogging makes me exert effort to lead a “blogworthy” life, that is, I travel to new places or try out new restaurants instead of just staying at home, partly because I am excited to have something new and interesting to blog about. It feels great to have a hobby you are passionate about, that makes you passionate about other aspects of your life in general.
(4) You make new friends from all around the world.
I’ve “met” a lot of awesome people thanks to the warm blogging community, people who are located all over the world and I would not have met the normal way. The internet is seriously one of the best inventions ever.
(5) Sometimes you get freebies.
I get beauty products or services in exchange for reviews, or get invited to events with free food and goodie bags. I also sometimes get paid for ads or sponsored posts, and isn’t it cool to get paid to do something you enjoy?
But bear in mind that if you start blogging just for the freebies and not because you genuinely love to write, you won’t last. I’ve seen other people say this on other blogs, and I know this to be true based on personal experience.
Are you a blogger? What else can you add to this list?
This post is part of the A to Z Challenge, a blog hop that goes through the alphabet for all the days of April except Sundays. Today’s feature is P for Perks.
