Porque (Maldita)

I discovered this music video on my Facebook feed. It’s a song in my hometown’s local dialect, Chavacano, sang by the local band called Maldita. Chavacano is like Spanish in Filipino grammar. That is why our city is now called “Asia’s Latin City.”

I love the vocals. I hope they make it big.

I will now attempt to translate the lyrics. I say “attempt” because Chavacano is my third Filipino dialect. We speak Bisaya at home because both my parents are while I speak Tagalog to all my friends who don’t speak Bisaya. I’ve always understood Chavacano, of course, but I only made an effort to actually start speaking in it when I became a senior in High School, because most of my fellow CAT officers did. Now I’m glad I did, because it’s what ties me to my hometown and everyone who has ever lived there.

Ok, now that I’m done with the disclaimer, here goes.

WHY

Alone in my room
I cannot sleep
In my head I keep repeating
The pain that I feel

Refrain:

    ei guys, i know that this is a bit late but if you still haven&#39;t heard, Maldita has already launched their first album under Viva Records. It is now available in your favorite record bars…The song &quot;Porque&quot; is also included in this album, it has 2 versions, 1 in full tagalog, the other in tagalog and chavacano…this song is also being played in Radio stations here in metro manila.
