3-in-1 Celebration: Despedida + Bachelorette Party + Baby Shower

Last Saturday, we held a surprise party for three people for three different occasions. Each one of them came to the party thinking that it was a belated birthday celebration for Cate, but it actually wasn’t.

We had some activities planned for the party but before we did all that, first things first… TIME TO EAT!

We decided to go pot luck. Here are some of the food we brought.

Clockwise from top left: moist chocolate cake, baked mac,
palitaw, humba, lechon kawali, leche flan, sushi

Maya baked the chocolate cake herself, Ervyn made the palitaw with his own hands, and Mark, chef by profession, cooked our favorite humba and kawali. The rest, we just bought.

Now I’ve always been a fan of Mark’s cooking, so nothing new to report in that regard. It was as scrumptious as always. But this was Maya’s first shot at baking a cake from scratch and it was such a success! It’s so yummy that Ervyn actually asked me where she bought it and how much, claiming that it tasted better than Breadtalk’s. See, it was that good. So proud of Maya.

She said she googled “super moist chocolate cake” for the recipe and then used the frosting recipe that I gave her that I also found on Google when I baked a cake with my friends before.

The palitaw was really good, too. Ervyn had made it for the pregnant lady who craved it when she saw him post a picture of it on Facebook. She really loved it, so that’s a success too.

Maya’s moist chocolate cake – super delicious!!!

After we were satiated, we had energy for our next activities: games! First up was a game that Cate prepared, based on the currently popular 4 Pics 1 Word app.

The game goes like this: you will be shown 4 pictures which all pertain to one word, which you can form out of a bunch of letters shown below the pic. All answers pertained to goodbyes, weddings or babies.

Cate split the group into three, each led by one of the celebrants. Whenever the teams got the answers wrong, the leaders had to be punished by taking a shot of alcohol, except pregnant Elma, whose shots were taken by her hubby Brian. They got a lot of answers wrong because Cate purposely made them difficult. LOL.

She then asked them if they noticed the theme of the game. Surprise, girls! This party really isn’t about me, but about you!

After that, she asked the celebrants to race around the area and collect their gifts. Once that was done, each celebrant was asked to sit in the center and open their presents.

They are the first couple in our LZ group to be expecting,
so everyone’s excited.

Anne also prepared the traditional bachelorette party questions for Jean. Then Tatsie and I came up with a baby shower game – charades for nursery rhymes and children’s books. As always, it was very funny. We really love charades!

Then we had the brilliant idea of tucking balloons under our shirts and pretending to be pregnant like Elma.

Spot the real preggo!

And then we jumped, reminding Elma that she was obviously not allowed to.

This was one 3-in-1 party indeed: food, fun and friendship. Till the next one! 😀
