A Fascinating Christmas Dinner

A few weeks ago, Dred and I were shopping for our office Secret Santa presents when we chanced upon some fascinator hats and fell in love with them. “Let’s buy one for all the girls and make this our Christmas eve dinner theme!” I said. And so last Christmas eve, this happened:

I was so fascinated with my fascinator that I took about a bajillion selfies.

*Insert completely unrelated quote here, like: A whisper is louder than a shout. Plant trees.*

The last time I took these many selfies was probably when I was 22. If you’re sitting there thinking, OMG what is her problem? You’re not alone, I’m thinking the same thing. 😅

And oh yeah, I also hugged the Christmas tree.

And this was before we even broke out the booze at midnight.

Christmas cheers

We’re not really hard core liquor drinkers, so we had Moscato wine because it’s sweet and tastes like juice. It’s always been my dream to take a toast picture like this and this year it’s finally been realized, thanks to my beloved monopod! Yay for dreams coming true! 😅

We also opened all our presents at midnight, and there were a few funny things that happened then.

First, Joc gave Dred this gigantic present and asked her to open it in front of everyone.

Christmas gift

Turns out there was nothing inside and her real gift was elsewhere! Poor Dred, you think, but later on, she got another surprise, a very happy one, when she opened her present from Jem and Shem (yes they’re a couple with rhyming nicknames, completely coincidentally) and found a Naked 3 palette. She was so touched that she actually started crying.

Then Nantoy decided that he would wear everything he received, starting with the head rest pillow we got him. He got a lot of T-shirts, which he wore on top of one another, and when it was Maya’s gift he had to open, Maya asked, “You’re sure you want to wear ALL your gifts?” Turns out Maya’s gift was a pair of boxers. True to his word, he wore it as well! 😂

Christmas Nancy

But the funniest moment was when I opened my gift from Nikki and to my surprise, I found these baby socks!

Ummm… what was going on? Did she know something that I didn’t?

I texted her the pic, saying, “Please explain!” I got a lot of hahahahahahaha’s in between explanations. Turns out she had accidentally swapped my gift with that for another friend! 😂

After all the gifts had been opened, we ate our noche buena (Christmas midnight dinner). Everyone who had no work that day cooked or bought the food – embutido, spaghetti, chicken pastel, humba, log cake. Joc and I had to come from the office, so we just brought wine and wine glasses. 😅

Christmas Dinner

It was a wonderful Christmas celebration and I’m glad everyone had no budget to go home for Christmas so I had them to spend it with. Haha! But seriously, it reminds me of this scene from Friends:

Chandler: Alright I’d like to propose a toast, a little toast here. I know this isn’t exactly the kind of Thanksgiving that all of you planned, but for me, this has been really great. You know, I think because it didn’t involve divorce or projectile vomiting. Anyway I was just thinking, I mean, if you had gone to Vail or if you guys had been with your family or if you didn’t have syphilis and stuff … we wouldn’t be all together you know, so I guess what I’m trying to say is I’m very thankful that all your Thanksgivings sucked.

Everyone Else: That’s so sweet!

Ross: And hey, here’s to a lousy Christmas!

Rachel: And a crappy new year.

Chandler: Here, Here!

I should have proposed this toast too!

  5. Haha the baby socks were funny! By the way, is noche buena some kind of Christmas Dinner dish tradition from Philippines? Because I read some other Filipino blogger mentioned about it… Totally unrelated: what's the difference between Filipino and Pinoy?

  6. Moscato d'Asti is the complete name, I think! It's really the best wine I've ever tasted! And yes I am a huge fan of purple, and it's been chosen as Pantone's color of the year, I'm so psyched!

  7. Yes it is! :)<br />Filipino and Pinoy are synonyms, actually, but Pinoy is more informal, as it was derived from the last four letters of the word &quot;Filipino.&quot; Kind of like a shortcut, I suppose.

  8. Only really for to fancy horse races and summer weddings, but still at least there&#39;s occasion to wear them! (I wore mine to a summer wedding) x
