Last year, I bought a hand held monopod, which is a gadget you attach to your camera to allow you to kind of extend your arm and take a shot of yourself using the timer function. Think tripod but with one leg, hence the name. Since then, life has never been the same. Okay, I exaggerate, let me rephrase that – selfies have never been the same.

But life hasn’t been the same too, actually, because whenever I take it out, complete strangers approach me to ask where I bought it. Can’t blame them. It really is a very nifty gadget and is my favorite camera accessory ever. I mean, how else can you take pictures of everyone in the group without having to ask some stranger to do it? You can use your hands, sure, but that would only show your very close up faces without the nice background, and sometimes, you want the background. It’s also perfect for solo wanderers.
Here are some of the best photos I have taken using it. You can click on the captions to check out the blog posts where I originally used the pictures.

And oh yeah, the photo I use for my blog button (over there on my sidebar) was taken with it too.
Wanna buy one? Check out this post to find out where I bought mine.
This post is part of the A to Z Challenge, a blog hop that goes through the alphabet for all the days of April except Sundays.

I got a monopod free when I bought some other camera stuff and had no idea what to do with it – thanks for the awesome suggestion! 🙂

I have seen people using these a few times and they really do seem like a great photography accessory to have. You have some wonderful group pictures captures, bonus you get to be in them!

What a cool gadget. I love anything to do with photography and since it's my birthday in a minute…. what camera are you using? I'm not sure if my SLR would be a bit heavy for it -can you attach iphone? I know, I'll just go and read about it. Great shots with it though!

I love how you can't even really tell they are selfies!

Wow, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D

I'm using a Canon powershot. Maybe the SLR is too heavy for this, I haven't tried. As for iphone, there are some monopods that are now being sold with an attachment for iphones. Maybe you can look for that. 🙂

Glad to help! 🙂

It's only starting to get popular, I think.
Dee says
You definitely need one! It's so helpful.
Dee says
Yes, no need for taking two different pictures coz not everyone can be in the pic!

Wow. I love how you can't even see the Monopod in some photos, but in others, it's part of the shot. I don't take many selfies though — I tend to be a behind the camera type.

Fun posts!

I always thought these looked so silly, but the pictures look really good. Especially the pics that you can't see the arm of it. Maybe I need to reconsider…

I'm suddenly finding it necessary for me to own a monopod.
Dee says
Yes, it's very versatile that's why I love it. Thanks!
Dee says
You definitely should! 🙂
Dee says
Thanks! 🙂

I know, right?
Dee says
Thank you so much for the buffer! Really glad I introduced you to it. 🙂

When I first saw these I thought they were funny. (Especially when called a narcisstick. 🙂 )
But they are quickly becoming an important accessory for selfies and groups alike. Your photos do a great job of showing what can be done. I don’t have one yet, but that’s only because I haven’t been traveling as much lately. With time, I’m sure I’ll have to. 🙂
