We were not about to let Chu fly off to Houston, Texas for his training for Shell without giving him some form of goodbye.
It was supposed to be a surprise that nearly translated into disaster when Chu said he wouldn’t be able to have dinner with us because he still had to go to the office to pick up some stuff plus he wasn’t through packing yet.
Thankfully, after promising him we’d help him pack, he agreed to have us drag him to Marina for his last “Pinoy” dinner. For a month, anyway. He still is coming back on September.
So after helping him buy last minute stuff like groceries and medicines in SM, he and Maya and I headed towards Glorietta where Nald was waiting for a table in Marina. When we were seated, Junjun arrived.
We ordered our favorite grilled squid along with some shrimp rebosado, chop suey, kilawing tanguige (my fave!), garlic rice and drinks (I had my fave calamansi juice).
Before the food arrived, I presented Chu with his despedida cupcake which I had made in one of the stalls in Glorietta. The thing was so cute, with its blue icing and curly pink letters that spelled out “Happy Trip!” that we didn’t want to eat it.
Our food soon arrived, and we dug right in while chatting. After about an hour we had polished off everything and headed for home, dropping off Chu at the RCBC plaza.
When he got home at around midnight, Maya and I helped him pack. Well…it was mostly just reminding him what he needed to pack and asking him if we could have the food that he wouldn’t be bringing with him.
Somehow the two of us ended up cooking up a batch of fruit crepes using Chu’s pancake mix.
By then Nald was also up and at 3:30 am we hugged Chu goodbye when the company transportation came to pick him up and bring him to the airport.
He’s probably soaking up the rays in Texas right now. We’re so happy for you, Chu (and a bit jealous, hehe)! Just don’t forget our pasalubong!
