Since moving to Hong Kong, I’ve gotten more pimples than usual. This was alarming for me because I’m typically zitproof aside from the odd one or two that pop out during my period.
My friend May told me that she had the same problem when she moved here from the Philippines. She said at first it was just a few, then it blew up and by the time she sought help from a dermatologist, it was too late. Now, even after she was prescribed Differin and oral antibiotics, they don’t seem to work.
So I started to suspect that maybe the problem was the water. I remembered that my friend Nic in Singapore had once mentioned that he had bought a shower filter, so I told May I’d ask Nic what brand it was. When he replied, I googled it and this popped out:
No wonder Hyun Bin has such smooth skin! 😂
Now of course I know this probably isn’t the only reason for that but it doesn’t hurt to try, right? I mean, have you seen the guy’s skin? It’s so beautiful that I was more mesmerized with his skin than the female lead in their Netflix series Crash Landing On You.
So I found the Bodyluv Puresome showerhead on Fortress and ordered it. I had it delivered to a Fortress near me so I wouldn’t have to pay delivery fee.
The shower head fits into a standard shower hose tube. It has some beads inside the head and the handle is clear coloured so you can see through it and see the filter, which is white when you first buy it.
WTF. No wonder my skin overreacted!
When I showed the week 1 pic to Nic, he said my filter turned dirty a lot faster than his which probably means I need to change the filter every month instead of every three months like he does.
By the way, the water stream is so strong that it may cause a control problem. So you’ll have to just use it as a hand shower and can’t leave it by itself, if that makes sense.
I then realized that I probably also need to put a filter on the bathroom washbasin because I use that faucet to wash my face and brush my teeth. So I ordered the Bodyluv puresome washbasin tap.
The box came with not just the tap filter but also a tool and multiple connectors that you can use for the many different kinds of washbasin taps.
First, you have to remove the original connector from the basin with the help of the tool. I was surprised to find mine caked with a lot of dirt and what seems like sand?
Then I tried on the connectors one by one til I found one that fit and used the tool to screw it on. Remember: “Righty tighty, lefty loosey.” Which means you twist right to tighten and left to loosen. I learned that from watching How I Met Your Mother!
Once done, I screwed on the tap itself. The water flow is so strong now! My cleaning lady was so impressed that she asked me where I bought it so she could also buy one for herself.
Now that filter was white originally but after about a week this is what it looks like:
Since that worked out well I then decided to buy a third product, this time for my kitchen sink. It’s called Bodyluv puresome kitchen shower head – cobra type. There are two types for the kitchen so you need to check what yours is because this one doesn’t come with any connectors or tools. I just screwed it on.
The side of the head has a switch that allows you to toggle between two functions.
I love it!
Since using it, I notice that the water in my Brita filter looks less cloudy.
As for my pimples, they seem to have improved. I do still get them but not as frequently as before, and I just got them before my period, which is how it used to be. I hope this really solves my issue but just to be on the safe side I’ve started using Differin, too.
UPDATE: It worked! My pimples are gone! See reel below.
