A friend always tells me, plans never work out. It’s the impulsive things that do. I guess he was right about this Friday. As early as Monday an officemate invited me to a night out with his friends so I could meet his friend who’s supposedly interested in me. Then I was supposed to bring a friend of mine to meet him too. But around Wednesday he had to cancel because they were going to another friend’s birthday. And then, KPMG officemates made plans for an overnight in Laguna. I was all set, even packing my new P&G backpack & lugging it to the office on Friday morning. Then they suddenly back out and said why not watch a movie instead? Duh.
Then Rey texts, saying he’s in Glorietta & could I go see him. And I remember that I still have a sack of Perla papaya powder and a box of Joy power dissolver in the office that I need to bring home. Somehow I manage to convince him to help me bring them home in his car. But my “driver” didn’t know where Buendia or Makati Av was, so I had to meet him in National Bookstore. He hands me a belated birthday card, and I remind him of the time he mailed me a handmade card for my 18th birthday. He had glued pressed flowers on the cover and wrote, “Your 18th rose…made of Sampaguita!”
We walk around a bit before picking up the stuff from my office and lugging them 18 floors down. When we are back on the road I search my bag for my cellphone and realize that it is missing. Uh oh. I ask Rey to call it with his phone, and when he does, I couldn’t hear it in the car, which only means one thing: it’s not here! My heart was really erratic then, and we head back to the office. Rey even made us run all the way up. When we got to my floor’s door I realize that my ID was missing as well, so we couldn’t prox our way in (our doors open only when you flash your id – the proximity card – against this thing near the door..hence “prox”). Luckily one of our security people was there and I asked him to open the door for us. When we get to my desk…there my cellphone was, on top of my ID. Whew!
We head on home, and my housemates jokingly ask why I had such a goodlooking kargador. After stashing the products, we drive around looking for a place to eat in. The first choice was Pancake House. But after we parked, we realized that it was already closed. So we headed to Jupiter, where there were plenty of restaurants. We were supposed to eat in North Park, but after Rey finds it impossible to park in their sidewalk parking lot, he decided he should’ve listened to me when I suggested Glorietta. So we went back to where we started, and found a good parking space in North Park there. We had beef broccoli, China chicken & fried rice and ate them fast, because we were running out of time. I had a movie at 10:30 and he wanted to watch the last episode of “Green Rose” on TV.
I made it to the movie, but I missed the first few minutes of it. “Red Eye” was a fast paced action movie that had me and Mhiles covering our eyes during one scene, not because it was a horror movie, but because it was a suspenseful scene.
After the movie we used up the free Timezone credits we got from buying Ayala cinema tickets. It was the first time I was in Timezone. Games just never interested me. But when I tried the basketball game…shooting free throws for a certain period, in competition with your friends..wow, I got hooked! We tried plenty of other games…race car, air hockey, shooting, foosball. We were losers compared to Aileen.
Then Boss Ed got hungry so we headed to Gilligan’s for dinner & drinks. Crazy Feb ordered 4 pitchers of Zombie for us. They had cute pitchers, clear glass ones in the shape of vases. We finished at 3am, too late for Mhiles to get home to Cavite, so I brought her home with me.
A Friday night jampacked with activities…none of them planned. Yes, my friend had a point.
