Last year was a special valentine’s day, if not for me, then at least for one of my friends, and I was happy enough. Zenie’s boyfriend John had contacted me and asked for my help. He was in their hometown Basilan so he couldn’t give his valentines gift personally, so he asked if I could ask Zenie what she wanted and buy it for her. Without letting her know about it, of course.
So I started talking to the girls about what their ideal valentines gift was. I said flowers, of course, but Zenie said she preferred a teddy bear. So I told John about her wish and he said he’d send me the money to buy it.
The next week I asked Zenie if she could accompany me to the mall to buy a teddy bear for Boss Ed’s girlfriend. She agreed readily enough and so off we went to one of the gift shops. She fell in love with one of the bears, even carrying it like a baby and cooing baby talk at it. So I said ok, we’re buying that one. She asked if we should get the pink one, since she was carrying the yellow one. But I said the yellow one was better, knowing that it’s her fave color.
On valentine’s eve everyone in the house made sure Zenie was still up at midnight. Then I asked Junjun to go outside the door and pretend to be the LBC guy. Then I went up and told Zenie, “There’s an LBC guy outside. It’s so weird! I mean it’s midnight! But he said it was a special request.” She was suspicious about what I just said but still she came down and opened the door. She was so shocked when Junjun handed her the bear saying, “Special valentines delivery for Zenie from John.” Lucky girl. Luckier guy, though.
As the text message goes:
Whenever I watch romantic movies, witness people kiss and make up, or listen to a love song, I smile…coz I know that love still works. If not for me, at least for others.
So despite all my rantings and ravings, I’m a lover of love at heart. Happy hearts day everyone!
