I wonder if my horoscope for this week said anything about being bombarded with reunions? Because on two succeeding days the time machine brought me back to High School…that is, on these two days I was reunited with High School friends. But then again why should I believe in horoscopes, when my zodiac sign, virgo, is always depicted as organized when I am the exact opposite? But the creepy thing is, a “personal” horoscope from a “psychic” on the net said that in May, former friends would return to me, after long months of absence. A mere coincidence? Perhaps.
My day certainly brightened when Flisha sent me a message in YM saying that she was coming to Manila on Wednesday for a debate (she is the debate team’s sort of moderator). Flisha is one of my best friends back home and I hadn’t seen her since I went home last Christmas. At first we had a slight confusion, because she said we could meet on Friday but then she was free during the day while I was free only at night. There was a moment when I thought we wouldn’t have the chance to see each other until I asked, what about tomorrow? To which she sheepishly replied, “Oh yeah, I forgot about tomorrow.” Hahaha. So we exchanged numbers (Flisha doesn’t have her own cellphone because she had one too many lost cellphone cases and got traumatized) and agreed to meet the next day.
The next day I called her in the UP University hotel where she was staying and gave her instructions on how to get to Greenbelt. Thanx to Neil who took me to UP, I was now able to tell Fli how to get there without having to spend for an expensive taxi ride. Then I told Chu, who was our common friend and who was also coming along, that we would be meeting in SM Makati. The three of us arrived at approximately the same time, and we set off towards Greenbelt on a quest to look for Goodah, which Chu insisted was a Chinese restaurant in GB3 but which I insisted was a goto fastfood chain.
After walking all over Greenbelt and finding no sign of it, even Chu had to concede his mistake and we ended up in Big Buddha instead. We had some roast duck, kung pao chicken, mixed veggies, and special rice. While filling our tummies we blabbed about debate, cameras, ADZU, and stuff Fli learned from Gim, her Med stude boyfriend.
Then Fli said, “The longer I stay with you two, the more I wanna stay in Manila.” Then Chu asked, “Fli, if you had no Gim, would you — ?” Fli didn’t even let him finish the question. “Yes, I’d be here, right after graduation.” Ah…love.
I do understand her, though. If I had a boyfriend back home I probably wouldn’t have come here too. Another reason why I’m wary to be too attached to anyone. I don’t want to get chained anywhere. Still, I don’t really pity Fli because she has such a happy life as it is. She even kidded that it’s okay because she will have a doctor someday, and the investment is worth it. She also kidded that the reason she was holding on to Gim was because I looked up to them so much and I would probably be more devastated than everyone else in case they broke up because I looked upon them as the ultimate picture of love. Hahaha.
After dinner, we walked around Greenbelt and took pictures. Fli discovered my posing technique and liked it so much she started copying it. She said it was effective. Hehe. Then Chu the night owl wanted coffee, so we parked ourselves in Seattle’s Best Coffee. We ended up ordering the same thing, javanilla shake, which the cashier said was their bestseller. At my first sip I realized why. It’s the most delicious iced coffee I’ve ever tasted! Milkshake made of pure coffee ice cream. Uber yum!
We chatted on until midnight, whereupon we all rode a taxi and brought Flisha back to her hotel. Then we rode the same taxi back to our apartment. That was so great, I didn’t even mind that I woke up so late the next day that I got to work at 30 minutes before noon. I hope Flisha’s debaters always have tournaments here.
