Don’t you just hate goodbyes? Actually, it’s not all goodbyes I hate, only when I am the one being left behind. I mean, when I was the one who had to leave, somehow saying goodbye was more bearable. So it was kind of a blow to me when two of my dearest friends in the office decided to tender their resignation and leave us at the same time.
Naturally, a traditional despedida party was called for, and the only thing we could come up due to our busy schedules was a trip to videoke last Friday night.
Now in a videoke, it is expected for people to eat, drink and sing. That wasn’t what happened in our case. We did eat and drink (an entire bottle of arctic melon vodka, at that), but singing, which is what most people come to the videoke for, did not happen that much.
We punched in songs and they played in the background, but what we mostly did was chat and pose for pictures. And not just normal poses. I insisted that we divert from the usual sit-and-smile pose and came up with these…
The first one who decided to leave was Keso. Now Keso is not really her name, it’s actually Janice. But in our batch there was also a Janis, and we got confused, so we decided to give her another name. Since Janice’s second name was Eden, we thought of Kraft Eden cheese, and that was how Keso was coined.
The first time I saw Kes I was intimidated, because she was the stereotypical beautiful girl who wore matched outfits and perfect makeup whom I always thought were mean girls as well.
Boy, was I ever wrong. Kes is not only beautiful outside, but inside as well. She has good brains and a heart of gold. Though she’s an unica hija, she is no spoiled brat at all. She is so sweet and affectionate and has a great sense of humor. She also has a very loud voice and we always kid her that she sounds like a man when she yells. She’s leaving to go back home and take over their family business.
Arni and I share the same birthday except for the year…she is four years older than me, yet she looks younger. Her secret can’t be a sunny disposition because she is known for her “kilay” and “taray mode.” If you’re not close to her, you’d probably also be intimidated and think she is a mean girl, but again, she is not.
Arni is also sweet and caring, very much like an older sister. She just doesn’t sugarcoat facts and tells it like it is, so if you can’t handle that and would prefer plastic people, then she won’t be your cup of tea.
I’ll sure miss having her around. Unlike Kes, whom we may probably still be able to hang out with once in a while when she visits the metro, we won’t be able to see Arni anymore at all once she leaves for USA to work with her brother in his company there. Still, we must be thankful for technology. Nowadays, everyone is just a message away.
