Choose your destiny, goes the tagline of this yet another comic book adaptation.
I was contemplating going home because I was already sleepy, but the movie kept me wide awake and at the edge of my seat all throughout.
I found myself relating to the lead character, Wesley, who felt, at the beginning of the film, that he was leading a mediocre life and was being tossed about it because he had no guts to control it.
Then he is led to to a group of assassins called the fraternity, whose leader tells him: “It is a choice, Wesley, that each of us must face: to remain ordinary, pathetic, beat-down, coasting through a miserable existence, like sheep herded by fate, or you can take control of your own destiny and join us, releasing the caged wolf you have inside.”
It felt exhilarating to see Wesley decide to finally take control of his life and fulfill his destiny.
At the end of the film, he says, “This is me taking control, from Sloan, from the fraternity, from Janice, billing reports, ergonomic keyboards, from cheating girlfriends and sack of shit best friends. This is me taking back control of my life.”
Then he stares you straight in the eyes (well at least that’s how it felt like, to me, anyway) and asks: “What the f**k have you done lately?“
This is the universe again, giving me the answers to exactly what’s been bugging me. He’s f**king right. It’s time I do something and gain control of MY life.
