At the stroke of midnight, Gelle, Cate and I screamed excitedly for our presents. We exchanged packages and looked on as each tore the wrapping off to reveal the presents from the others. I felt like Cinderella that night, with both presents I got being shoes… pretty shoes, may I add. I was very happy that they liked the presents I had carefully picked out for them. I had given them many little presents; back up plans for when they did not like my main present. Turns out I need not have worried. After taking pictures with all our new stuff, we dug into our ham and Christmas log before turning in for the night.

The next day we packed a picnic lunch and our presents for Tyne and Rodel and met them at Vivo City. We three girls donned near uniform get ups – shades, hoop earrings, bikini, white cover up (my gifts), shorts (Cate’s gifts) and flip flops. People kept on staring at us wherever we went. Hahaha. We had Hokkien Mee for lunch at Food Republic in Vivo City, because Gelle had never tasted our favorite hawker’s stall local cuisine.

When Rodel and Tyne arrived, we rode the train to Sentosa island and found a spot to have a picnic at Tram beach. We exchanged gifts and ate pizza, chocolates, ham, Christmas log cake and leche flan (for Rodel, who does not eat chocolate-flavored food) while sitting on a blanket on the sand, sharing horror stories. Yeah I know. Not exactly the best thing to talk about on Christmas.
Perhaps talking about ghosts was what prompted a ghost of my past to suddenly materialize right then and there. It was the girl who caused my ex to break up with me, many many years ago. Back then, I hated her for flirting with a guy even though she knew he was taken. Back then I thought I had lost to her because she was way more beautiful than I was. Now I realize that she wasn’t. Also, it wasn’t fair to blame her entirely for wrecking my relationship. She and my ex lasted a little more than a month. She moved on from him the moment another guy showed interest. If my ex really loved me, he would have gotten back together with me after that. But he didn’t. Which means that he left not just because of her, but mostly because of me.
So yesterday I smiled at her and chatted with her and even posed for a picture with her at Cate’s suggestion. And by the time I waved goodbye, I realized that she was actually my blessing in disguise. She deserved thanks, not anger.
