Back in February 18, I co-hosted a pizza-making party for Girl Gone International HK, a Facebook group community which is a fun, friendly local and global community offering friendship, connection, belonging, empowerment and happiness to women and non-binary people living overseas or far from home.
I had been wanting to do this for a while, but none of my friends were interested, so I posted about it on GGI, where the community leader Tanya saw it and asked me if I wanted to make it an official GGI event and co-host it with her. I happily agreed.
You can book a slot separately for this event at the Motorino website, but Tanya coordinated with someone from Motorino to make it a private event for us.
We were told we could get in a maximum of 20 people. Tanya then posted about it on the Facebook group and asked for people to sign up and make prepayments. The slots were snapped up very quickly!
Then on the day, we headed to the Motorino Wan Chai branch. We were seated at tables and given an apron and chef hat to wear, as well as appetizers and drinks. We did not pay for the package with the alcohol, but they decided to give them to us for free anyway. So nice!
Not everyone could fit into the little kitchen at once, so they broke us up into small groups of 5 at a time. A chef then taught us how to make the pizza. First, we rolled the dough and stretched it.
Then we spread tomato sauce on it and then chunks of cheese.
Then we put toppings of our choice. Vegetarian choices were also available for those who needed it. Not me – I’m a meat girl.
Then the chefs put the pizzas into the wood fire oven for us and a few moments later, when the pizza was cooked, they pulled it out, ready for eating – but not before proudly taking pics of our creation, of course!
We then finally sat down to enjoy the fruits of our labor, and it was really good! Motorino is actually one of my favorite pizzas in Hong Kong so I was thrilled to be able to do this activity with good quality ingredients. But as good as it was, it really is tough to finish an entire pizza in one sitting, so they gave us pizza boxes for us to take our leftovers home.
You can watch an Instagram reel I made of the whole thing below.
I was so glad that Tanya helped me make my “dream” come true!
She was also pleased with my co-hosting abilities, it turns out, because at the end of it, she asked me if I could be an official GGI event host and make my other “dreams” come true for myself. I said yes, so stay tuned for posts about other events I’ve done since then!
