Thanks to the internet, it has become so much harder to keep secrets and so much easier to be prone to public humiliation. But while it’s one thing to get in trouble thanks to friends who post incriminating pictures or stories about you, it’s a completely different level of stupidity when you dig a grave for yourself by committing the gaffe that I witnessed today.
When I got to the office this morning, I had an email from one of my best friends in P&G. He asked for my help in translating some Chavacano words that was posted by one of his direct reports on his Facebook status. Following the status was a conversation held in more Chavacano words.
I was appalled, but I translated the entire conversation as best as I could. His kid had shouted out for the world to see: “I want to go home already. It’s so infuriating. The fatso sitting beside me is still making me do something!” Okay, so he did laugh afterwards, and when a friend of his laughed in reply, he said, “I hope he won’t know what I said here.” Then his friend agreed with his tactic and suggested he use gay lingo, too. His reply to that: “The problem is, he is gay as well.”
Kid, you are so dead. You should know better than to complain about your boss on Facebook, even if it’s in a different dialect, because you never know.. he may be best friends with someone who can translate it for him! Don’t you know that people have gotten fired for their Facebook status? You haven’t even been regularized yet! Do yourself a favor and read this article. Maybe it will save you some grief in the future.

Na Heids, so true. Never ever talk about your workplace on the Interwebs. That’s one policy I have in my blog. Once lang gad I wrote about my work, pero that was a long time ago, when I just started blogging. When I read about other people’s ‘fired for blogging’ horror stories I immediately stopped! Now I only metion work stuff in passing, but never in detail, never anything negative, and

well good for you. i learned my lesson when our classmate, you know who he is, left a comment on one of my posts for dissing him on my blog and writing his name. i realized he had a point. so i’ve been very careful about what i write eversince, and i’ve been very careful in bringing up names. when i’m not sure if a person would be pleased to be named, i always say "a friend of mine." hahaha.<br /
