Yesterday we finally had one dream come true – we got to see the insite of Cathay’s Picturehouse. A few weeks ago, we had watched The Bountyhunter in The Grand Cathay and got so impressed with the enormous cinema and plush red seats that Arlyn wanted to know what the other special cinema (The Picturehouse) looked like. The two cinemas were completely different. The Picturehouse was small and exclusive and had seats that made us want to reach for seatbelts. I snagged a shot on the way out, take a look:
The movie that we watched was called Away We Go. It’s a romantic comedy that is realistic yet hilarious and gives off an indie vibe – not your typical cheesy, mushy love affair at all. The story centers on a pregnant couple who decide to travel to several places in America to find a place where they can move and make a home to raise their daughter in. They seek out old friends and relatives they thought they knew, only to discover dysfunctional people they wouldn’t want to be around as examples for their kid. They have a lot of realizations along the way and there is one particularly touching exchange of vows scene between the two as they lie down on a trampoline one night. The next morning, the girl shares a childhood story involving her family and a fruitless orange tree ritual, and that’s when it hits them where they need to stay – home.
After that, we headed to the Youth Park kopitiam to have dinner at Mang Kiko’s. I had some lechon manok and salted egg and swiped some liempo and sisig off their plates. I was the last one to finish my food though because I spent some time narrating my latest traumatic experience that involved a mechanic pounding the table and yelling the F phrase at me.
Then Betchie invited us to her flat for a videoke session with her magic sing. Yves and her cousin begged off due to other appointments, so it was just the three of us. When we got there, we started talking about some really interesting stuff, though, that we didn’t want to stop. So we didn’t sing after all. We just watched a DVD of J Lo’s latest movie, The Backup Plan, and it was the opposite of the one we just saw in the cinema. It was so unrealistic and cheesy (and not just because the guy’s job was to sell cheese). We also had a lot of realizations and a lot of fun and went home past 1am.

Had a really great time last night. That was a very interesting discussion. Who would have thought we'll stay until 1am talking about the same topic. Let's do that again girls! 🙂 Yves should join us next time, she really missed a lot.
