Mildred and I are trying to lose weight so we invented a salad which we named after us. It’s delicious! Here is how to make it.
Step 1: Go to the nearest Fairprice grocery store.
Step 2: Grab a big cart with wheels. No you won’t really buy that much but it’s just fun to “drive” the thing around! 😀
Step 3: Walk into the produce section. Get grapes. Be giddy that finally something is in your cart! Yay!
Step 4: Find red cabbage. Get excited about the fact that there is only one left so it must be meant for you or you’re extremely lucky or whatever.
Step 5: Realize a few literal steps later that there are more red cabbages after all and you got excited over nothing earlier.
Step 6: Wonder to self: why is it called red cabbage when it is in fact purple? Realize that red grapes have the same issue.
Step 7: Find a head of lettuce and be amazed that it is actually as big as your head. Some names do get it right.
Step 8: Head to the dairy section and find some parmesan cheese, preferably the pre-shredded kind.
Step 9: Ride the walkalator up to the second floor. Take a picture of yourself in the mirror for posterity. Recall that you read somewhere that the term for this is a “selfie.”
Step 10: Get lost. Wonder where the hell they keep the balsamic vinegar and swear that you saw one somewhere around here the last time.
Step 11: Finally find the bloody balsamic vinegar. It’s not literally bloody, of course, you just like to think in British slang because you are a huge fan of the British accent.
Step 12: In the canned goods aisle, search for the cheapest tuna you can find.
Step 13: Find yourself in the chocolates aisle. Wail because you’re not allowed to eat any. Resist temptation. This is the most crucial step of all.
Step 14: Double check your grocery cart to make sure you have all the ingredients.
Step 15: Head to the cashier and pay for your groceries. You do not want to break the law in Singapore. Seriously.
Step 16: Now that you have all the ingredients, measure out the following:
– 1 cup lettuce
– 1 cup red cabbage
– 1/2 can of tuna
– 1 tbsp of parmesan cheese
– 2 tbsp of balsamic vinegar
– 10 pcs grapes
Step 17: Shred the lettuce and cabbage into a bowl. Throw all the other ingredients on top and mix well.
Step 18: Eat!
Step 20: Log calories into My Fitness Pal app. It’s only 176 calories!!! 😀
This is probably the lengthiest salad recipe you’ve ever seen, huh? XD
Seriously, though, I love the Mildee salad. It has everything – well, almost. It is low calorie – balsamic vinegar has about a tenth of the calories of your typical mayo-based dressing. The sour taste is a bonus for those who love sour food (which Dred and I do). It has no carbs. It has protein so you won’t get easily hungry. It has grapes to add a touch of sweetness so you won’t feel dessert-deprived. You can make do without the red cabbage, but I really recommend you keep it in as it adds texture and crispiness and it’s more filling than its thinner cousin, the lettuce. Eating it does not seem like a sacrifice for us. 🙂
