One of the things you need to lose weight is a thinspiration – someone to look up to, one who has your ideal weight or who has lost a lot of weight and is serving as an inspiration to you.
So I decided to show you one of mine, my friend Chrissete! She has lost 25 lbs since she started dieting in February. Amazing, right? Just look at her transformation and I dare you to tell me you ain’t impressed.
So how did she do it? This is her story.
When did you start with your weight loss journey? What made you embark on it?
I think I started dieting the first week of February. There were many factors that initiated the weight loss. One of which was Caloy being on a diet for weeks already (being part of the Fit For the Future campaign at work), which meant that I couldn’t invite him anymore to dinners/fast-food binges.
Also a major factor was a friend of mine was getting married. Another friend of mine, who was also part of the entourage of a friend’s wedding, had lost a lot of weight. I didn’t want to be the only morbidly obese (hahaha exaggeration) one walking down the aisle. 😛
What are your motivations for losing weight?
When I realized I was entering my late 20s, I think this is what really got me into dieting. I was fine for the longest time being the fat funny friend or the “biggest” among me and my sisters. But I guess I told myself that I can change it, and that I already need to change it since my metabolism is starting to get out of control since I’m already aging.
Also, I think that since my profession requires me to face/interact with people, I always need to look presentable or at least decent enough to gain respect. Especially when dealing with teenagers who are malakas mang-lait (quick to insult).
So whenever I start gaining weight again, these are the things that make me get back on track:
- A healthy weight makes you look younger.
- Clothes look better on a person with a healthy weight – not that much bulges! Thus, more choices in clothes when you are not fat.
- Skin looks better! I am into makeup and skin products. But being in a healthy diet lessens the need for them.
Who are your thinspirations?
Hmmm. I have always admired Miley Cyrus’ and Emma Watson’s bodies. Haha. I also like how Judy Ann Santos has maintained her weight loss, and look at her now, she looks younger than ever.
What is your weight loss goal?
My goal is to weigh 110-115 by end of year! And to be within the normal body fat percentage. My frame is relatively big, so I think anything less than that would make me look like a corpse already. Haha.
How much of your goal have you achieved so far and when is your personal deadline to reach your final goal weight?
So far, compared to my heaviest last year, I have lost at least 25 pounds. But on my “thin” days, it goes up to at least 30 pounds.
What were your methods for achieving that loss? Please share your tips!
I’ve tried so much diet fads before, but so far, what works best for me is avoiding carbs and sugar.
It’s not strictly South Beach Diet (which makes you watch out even the fat contents of what you are eating), but when I lost the twenty pounds in the four months, I really avoided carbs, fruits, and anything with sugar majority of the time (except on cheat days).
I kinda adopted a lifestyle similar to a diabetic person. Sugar really doesn’t do anything good for the body and skin (though I am not saying it’s not delicious hehehe).
Now, I am not really that strict anymore, and haven’t really been dieting or losing weight. But since I’m in my normal BMI already, I try to lose weight now by exercising.
Also, weigh yourself every day. This is not to pressure you, but just so you know if you’re making any progress (yaaay!), or that you are doing something not right and that you can make adjustments before it’s too late.
How do you feel now that you’ve lost weight? Any changes aside from the physical aspect?
I think aside from the compliments you get from people, it really feels good inside.
The thing about losing weight is that you have to be doing it for yourself. It’s not enough that you are doing it for a certain event, etc., because that has a huge tendency for you to gain weight again.
Physically, of course, the lighter you are and the healthier you eat, you tend to be less sluggish.
Also, you’ll feel more confident when facing people and presenting yourself. This may be because you look better in what you’re wearing, or just because you really look better when you are healthier. 🙂
Any last inspiring (thinspiring?) words?
Whenever I get frustrated and question why it’s so hard to watch what I eat while others don’t gain weight even though they eat their hearts out (hahaha), I tell myself that life is not fair and I have to deal with it. Hahaha.
But seriously, not everything in life is easy and I think there are aspects that we really have to work hard for. And for me, it’s to keep a healthy weight.
It does get hard at times. But I go back to the reasons why I want to lose weight. They outweigh the reason why I want to eat that whole cake.
Also, don’t be too hard on yourself. Let loose and eat your favourite treat once a week. Go out and have hearty dinners with friends (just not every day). Have a cheat day once a week.
If you go off track, dust yourself off and start anew. When you get too hard, you get frustrated, and that leads to binging most of the time.
Lastly, look at weight loss as a lifestyle change and not just a phase. Look at what makes your metabolism work better and adopt it for life.
Yes, hard. But as I’ve said, life’s like that. Acceptance is key.
And as Kate Moss said: “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.”

I know, it's so tough, especially if you have sweet tooth (like me) but you can try doing it for just 2 weeks so you can lose your cravings. That's the Southbeach way.

She did a great job with a wonderful attitude. I agree with her. It won't work if it is for events or someone or something else. A person must lose weight for themselves and in a healthy, slow manner or they will just gain it all back. The word diet should not be used because people tend to think they can eventually go back to eating their old ways and that can never happen, it must be a

What a great insight, Lucy! You are so right, it should definitely be a lifestyle change, not just something to do for now, otherwise you'd really go back to how fat you were before, like what happened to me.

It took me awhile to get the idea about a Lifestyle change. Oh, and I can't comment on older posts anymore, have you changed the settings? Or is it me?
Dee says
Oh dear I think it's this new template I'm using that's causing a problem. Thanks for pointing it out! Will change it back to the old one.

Set, so nice to hear your story man! I think that's the most effective way to keep weight off, slowly but surely, a real lifestyle change. lol at the diabetic diet — that's the perfect way to put it!

Hi, Eula! Thanks for dropping by. I'll make sure Set reads your comment. 🙂
