I’ve been feeling a bit sad lately due to a lot of friends moving away from Singapore, so I was super stoked when two of my besties happened to have overlapping business trips around the weekend of singles day. I had stayed with them at their homes in Manila and Sydney – now it was their turn to stay in mine.
Chi arrived first from Manila. After her business trip was done, she spent the weekend at our flat – her sister happens to be my flatmate, so she was visiting two birds with one stone (wait, what?).
On her first night with us, we went to the nearby Parkway Parade mall, where she excitedly went shopping in – Giant. A grocery store! What is happening? #signsofaging
It was in here that she discovered her favourite chiffon cake.
This whole chiffon cake costs like 2 bucks but it’s quite tasty! She happily munched on that while I had takeaway Thai food from Nakhon Kitchen. We did this while watching Clueless, a popular movie from our youth. At the end of the night we wondered why we thought that movie was so appealing. #signsofagingparttwo
The next day we woke up super late, so our supposed plans to go for brunch at a nearby cafe were shelved and we had McDonalds delivered for breakfast instead. 😅
We ate this while watching another popular movie from our youth – Serendipity. Once again, it was ruined for us. Maybe we should stop rewatching popular movies from our youth. 🙈
After we managed to peel ourselves from the couch, we went back to Parkway Parade to look for sales, since it was singles day.
But first we had a very late lunch at Din Tai Fung, where we shared pork chop with fried rice and some dumplings. After shopping, we rested our feet in Ya Kun so that Chi could have some kaya toast as well.
We then headed to Jag Wine, where we were meeting Gelle and Joey and Bin for drinks. Gelle and Joey had just flown in from Australia the night before.
Jag Wine was recommended by Bin. They have pretty good food, but their main appeal is their wine, which they sell for $6 a glass during happy hour.
After dinner we went home and had some desserts and Moscato d’Asti wine while roaring with laughter over Jo Koy and Crazy Ex Girlfriend on Netflix. So this time around, no teenhood movies were ruined! 😁
Then guess what happened the next day? That’s right, nobody woke up in time for the planned brunch in East Coast, so McDonalds had to be ordered for breakfast once again. 😅
Later that day, we headed to Marina Bay Sands, where Gelle and Joey were staying. We ended up shopping at two of my fave shops in MBS – Sephora and Bath & Body Works.
We used Gelle’s key card to get a discount. We fell in love with these products:
Hourglass ambient light palette has such a dreamy finely milled consistency and gives you a lit-from-within look! I can’t afford this though so I’ll just pin it to my wishlist for now!
We’re both using Smashbox Be Legendary liquid pigment in Mauve Wife. I caved and bought one. Call it an early Christmas pressie for myself? 😅
We also bought three-wick candles from Bath & Body Works. They’re normally $40 apiece, but thanks to discounts we got them at $24.
We then went up to their hotel bedroom to continue chatting and eating.
It felt so good to catch up with Chi and Gelle! If only AA were with us, too! When would we be complete again, we often wonder. Hope it’s not too far off.
