It’s February, so you may be looking for a place to celebrate Valentine’s Day. You may want to consider celebrating under the night sky with a romantic riverfront view in either Brewerkz or Cafe Iguana, both of which are serving a 3 course Valentine’s Day set dinner on February 14 from 6:30 pm onwards. Both restaurants are on Riverside Point in Clarke Quay.
I was invited to sample the Valentine’s set dinner for both restaurants while in Brewerkz, which I thought was an interesting experience in itself but even made more so by the fact that I have always liked Brewerkz. I’ve actually celebrated a few friends’ birthdays in here before.
Brewerkz Valentine’s Day Set Dinner
The set is $98++ per couple and includes 2 appetisers, 2 mains, and 1 desserts set.
Appetiser options:
Watercress salad. Watercress and chicory tossed with heart-shaped pickled beetroot, orange, and feta cheese drizzled with honey mustard dressing. I loved this salad not only because how cute is that beetroot but also because of its different textures and refreshing flavours.
Seafood soup. A rich seafood soup cooked with baby clam, squid, prawn, and mussel. It’s a bit spicy, so if that’s not your thing, be warned. I thought it was good, too, but I preferred the salad to be honest.
Main course options:
Pan seared halibut. Served with a side of garden vegetables and a citrus ginger beurre blanc, a creamy tart sauce made with shallots, white wine, cream and butter.
Grass fed NZ striploin. Served with parsnip puree, seasonal vegetables and a black truffle veal reduction. This was my fave main of this set because I love truffle.
Vegetarian lasagna. Layers of vegetables cooked with a tangy tomato sauce, covered with cheese and baked to perfection. This was the fave of the other blogger on our table.
Dessert is a plate with two cakes – royal chocolate truffle cake and matcha cake served with a side of mixed berries. Loved the chocolate one!
You can add on Valentine’s Day cocktails.
Sweet Valentine ($12++) Proseco, Grenadine syrup, Cointreau, Cranberry juice, fresh strawberry. I think the Sweet Valentine is super cute and instagrammable, too pretty to drink! It also tastes refreshing.
Pure ($12++) Baileys, fresh milk, Grenadine syrup, pomegranate seeds, whipped cream, cherry. This tastes like a dessert drink, good for people who love milkshakes.
Cafe Iguana Valentine’s Day Set Dinner
The set is $98++ per couple and includes 2 appetisers, 2 mains, and 1 desserts set.
Appetizer options:
Tostadas smoked salmon. Toasted tortilla, mixed greens, smoked salmon, orange wedges and orange chipotle dressing.
Esquites. Seared corn mixed together with mayonnaise, spring onion, coriander and jalapenos.
Seafood sopes. Chunks of tiger prawn and snapper on top of a crispy corn masa boat. Garnished with cilantro, lime juice and queso fresco cheese.
Main course options:
Prawn mojo de empanadas. Tiger prawn sauteed with pico de gallo, lime juice, and served with a fried puff filled with creamy mushrooms.
Lamb shank. Australian lamb shank braised with red wine, served with creamed potato and broccoli.
Veggie rellenos. Baked Poblano chile stuffed with zucchini, capsicum, onion, mixed cheese. Served with a spicy green mexican sauce, Mexican rice, and black beans. This is my favourite main in the set because I was so wowed by that giant chile which encased the whole thing and also I love how it tastes!
Dessert is a lemon-lime sorbet infused with house vodka and served with hazelnut liqueur. Some people might find the sorbet too sour but the hazelnut made it taste great. I loved the sorbet on its own, though.
You can also add on the same Valentine’s day cocktails from Brewerkz – Sweet Valentine or Pure.
Brewerkz Chinese New Year Specials
Brewerkz is also serving Chinese New Year specials at all outlets for the whole month of February.
Char siew burger ($22++) Thick slices of pork belly baked with a savoury sweet asian bbq glaze. Served with a side of fries and Gochujang (Korean spicy paste) mayo. We loved this! This was my friend’s favourite – especially the fries, which he finished, for some reason.
Orange blossom lager (from $10++) A refreshing lager brewed with orange blossoms and premium pilsner and crystal malts and Noble hops. A wonderfully silky smooth lager that has a kiss of citrus and orange blossom in the finish. This is good for people who usually can’t stand beer, because it adds a hint of sweetness to beer.
CNY cocktail – Heng Ah ($12++) Johnnie Walker Red Label mixed with lychee liquor and orange juice.
CNY cocktail – Oink Oink ($12++) Vodka, orange, sugar, blue curacao shaken and garnished with rainbow sprinkles.
You can get the burger with an orange blossom lager or any CNY cocktail as a CNY festive set for $28++.
Cafe Iguana Chinese New Year Specials
Tequila grilled chicken wrap ($18++) A DIY wrap plated to look like lo hei. Succulent sweet-savoury tequila-chicken served with shredded carrots and cucumber on the side. Pair it with pickled onions as well as candied jalapenos for a spicy kick. I don’t think you should toss these while yelling “huat ah!” though, but I guess you could try?
Cafe Iguana also serves the same liquors as Brewerkz for their Chinese New Year specials.
You could get a set of the wrap and an orange margarita or any CNY cocktail for $28++.
