My former roommate Maybelle is getting married to Jon next month, so we decided to throw her an impromptu bridal shower upon Jemma’s suggestion.
We asked to have dinner with her on a Saturday night. I realized thanks to an old blog post of mine that we could hold her bridal shower in a private karaoke room, so we chose a restaurant somewhat near a karaoke place. This ended up being Firebake.
Firebake is known for its extraordinary freshly baked bread so we ordered a small platter of that with some foie gras. I tried a bit and the foie gras on bread is so good!
Maybelle and Jo have the entertainer app so we used it to get one on one on the mains. We ordered steak and two different kinds of mussels and they were all delicious!
By the way, Firebake is quite popular so I suggest booking reservations. We just lucked out that we arrived early at 6:30 pm and they said they could provide us a table only if we promised to scamper by 7:30 pm when it was reserved. So we had to eat fast but we did it! It was just nice, too, because our karaoke reservation was for 8pm and it was a few blocks away.
When we arrived at Teo Heng KTV in Katong Shopping Centre, we paid for $48 for 3 hours of karaoke for a medium room which can fit a maximum of 6 people. It’s really not bad because you can bring in your own food and drinks with no corkage fee. They have quite a wide range of songs, too, but our only issue is it’s not very easy to find songs coz their system is a bit too manual.
When we got into our room, Jo brought out all the props. She had bought “bride to be” veil and sash from a shop called party.pops in Carousell. They have Toy Outpost shops so she was able to go down and self collect them last minute.
She even brought her own white dress that Maybelle could slip into. Perfect fit!
But it wasn’t just the bride to be that had props, so did Team Bride!
Then what bridal shower is complete without lingerie gifts?
We also got the groom a bottle of Baileys but isn’t the lingerie actually a gift for him as well? 😜
We actually wanted Jon to pretend that he couldn’t come but then later we would blindfold Maybelle and tell her we had hired a stripper but it would actually be him. Unfortunately Maybelle couldn’t accept that Jon didn’t want to go so rather than have a fight, he came along.
Jo also brought a castelle cake for us to snack on, so of course we had to ask the groom and bride to be to do the cake cutting ceremony.
We then sang a lot of 90s pop while eating and drinking and when I sang Toni Braxton’s “How Could an Angel Break My Heart” Jon suddenly realized that I sang decently and should therefore sing with their band at the wedding reception. 😅
It was actually a really fun event and I’m glad we had it! Excited to attend their wedding in Tagaytay next month!
