Today I met up with Guohao’s friend Vivian, who had moved from Singapore to Hong Kong last month. Guohao had sent some stuff for me through her, and vice versa, so we agreed to meet up for lunch at Kam’s Roast Goose, a famous restaurant here. I got the roast goose leg and roast pork and it’s delicious.
It turns out Vivian had no idea that Guohao had a present for her, too, and she was so surprised.
Over lunch, I gave her some tips about Hong Kong life, such as advising her to buy a space heater for winter. Then when she asked where she could find a Uniqlo to buy winter wear, I offered to walk her over to Causeway Bay to show her where it is, since I wanted to buy something from Causeway Bay anyway. But while walking over there, I got lost – hahahaha worst tour guide ever! So I suggested going there via MTR instead.
After reaching CWB, I walked her over to Uniqlo, bid goodbye, then walked over to Sogo. After being called “tita” (auntie) at the Filipino restaurant yesterday, I had decided that I would buy SKII. So I found their counter and first, got a skin test which my friend Beulah had mentioned they did. Here are the results:
So apparently, my skin is not so bad, actually! Overall it’s 11 years younger than my actual age. And the funny thing is that spot control – which I’ve been most concerned about – is actually where it scored best at. Sometimes I’m just too self critical for my own good.
After that, I bought my first full bottle of SKII facial treatment essence. I loved the limited edition bottle it came in with its vibrant orange color and the words “REWRITE DESTINY” on it. It also came with a free small bottle of SKII clear lotion plus a bunch of other small samples.
Of course this product is super popular and some friends swear by it but I have not bought one before because of how expensive it is, especially in comparison to supposedly comparable products like Cosrx Galactomyces 95 tone balancing essence. But I’m turning 40 this year so maybe I need to give it a try, maybe it is a lot better than the latter, hence the price point?
When I got home, I opened the heavy package that I received from Guohao and my former teammates in Singapore and I was touched by everything in it. I only asked for the Song Fa bak kut teh spices when Guohao asked me what I wanted from Singapore, everything else was not expected. I was amazed that there was a huge pack of tamarind paste, which kinda reminded me of the snack I used to enjoy in the Philippines. They remembered that I love tamarind!
The peppermint candy canes also showed they remembered, because I always get those – and even melt some in my daily coffee – every Christmas. I also loved the tiny musical Christmas tree with butter cookies inside. This was supposed to be a Christmas package but Vivian’s original 2 week quarantine suddenly got extended to 3 weeks because of the increase in Covid-19 cases in Hong Kong. I miss my dream team so much! I’m grateful to feel so loved on the first day of the year. I hope that means I’ll feel this all throughout the year.
