If you need proof that Star Wars is a major hype, a trip to the Ayala Cinemas is all you need. 5 out of 7 Glorietta4 cinemas and all 5 Greenbelt3 cinemas shows Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. You’d think you’d be sure to get into at least one. No way. You can never be sure. Not on a friday night.
So yesterday I reserved our sure seats via the internet and managed to get us booked in G4 cinema 6 for the 10pm show. Unfortunately, my long separation from school seems to have rendered me useless in addition and I miscounted how many people were going. I reserved only 7 tickets for 8 people. What to do?
Luckily, Gay came to the rescue. I asked her to claim our reserved seats (reserved seats have to be claimed 45 minutes ahead of time or else they’ll be forfeited) at the booth and buy an additional ticket. I knew that there was still one available seat on our row, since I had chosen the seats myself.
She was able to do so. And while she read “The Wedding” in Powerbooks after claiming our precious tickets, I was on a bus en route to España to fetch my afraid-to-commute, no-sense-of-direction friend.
At show time, we all met at the G4 cinemas. There was a long long line at cinema 6 that extended halfway around the circle surrounding the escalators. Eventually we all got ushered in, and we sat down, ready to enjoy the first part of the show – trailers of upcoming movies.
I love watching trailers. It gives you a glimpse of future movies and you can start making a list of what movies to watch out for. Last night, for instance, we girls loved Ashton Kutcher in his guitar scene for “A Lot Like Love.” Gay and I promised we’d watch that along with “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” “War of the Worlds” and “The Island.”
It’s funny, coz as a student I was never a movie buff. I rarely watched movies in the cinema, we didn’t have a VCD player at home, and my dad had our cable connection cut (blame it on the brother who got bad grades) so do not be surprised that I wasn’t able to watch a majority of the movies until I started working in Makati and had the opportunity to rent cds and watch it on a laptop or watch the latest movie in Ayala cinemas. Sometimes, we’d even go to the cinemas twice a weekend
WARNING! SPOILERS!
Back to Star Wars, it delivered all the expectations of action and special effects. It was a dark and poignant film, and I found myself teary-eyed at some scenes, especially when they started killing the Jedi knights. How would you feel if the very people you trusted to protect you suddenly turned against you and killed you?
But the biggest irony was that of Anakin Skywalker. He turned to the dark side to prevent his beloved Padme from dying, not knowing that by doing so, he himself would kill her.
Hayden Christensen (who plays Anakin) is so adorable, though. Sigh! (Teehee!)
