Gay, who turned 24 last June 10, is the oldest girl in our house and yet she is our innocent wide-eyed little child. She is also our lanlan queen and official tagatilok sa balay. Lanlan is a Bisaya word which means eating something in pure form…like salt, for instance, which she did once. Tagatilok is also Bisaya, which means the one who finishes up all the food. She was brought up to believe that all food on the plate must be consumed or else magabaan ka…another Bisaya term meaning you will get punished, by either God or karma.
Gay is also part of our College peer group called the huggables, though we always joke that we should kick her off the group because she’s the only member who’s not living up to the name. Even though Gay eats a lot, she remains thin, for some unfair, inexplicable reason.
On Gay’s birthday, we decided to celebrate by having dinner at Max’s Fried Chicken in Glorietta. All housemates were present save for Junjun, who was mysteriously missing. Knowing Junjun, he’s probably out of town. I won’t elaborate. Hehe.
Maya and I put makeup on our little girl before we all set off. Once there, we ordered fried chicken (which was free because I had a freebie stub from buying my digicam), chicken barbeque, chicken sisig, sinigang na bangus belly, crispy pata, pinakbet, chopsuey, rice and shakes.
Reggie, who’s turning 24 next week, also announced that he was contributing for his birthday treat along with Gay for the banquet.
While eating, we asked Gay to talk about her day. She talked about the surprise her office teammates had for her. Then she talked about the text messages she exchanged with her crush.
When she was through detailing the events with her signature one-sided smile, I blew the whistle on Reggie. You see, it wasn’t Gay’s crush texting her at all, but Reggie!
When Gay found out, she pounded at him, and the rest of us roared with laughter.
After a dessert of caramel barsĀ (uber yum, definitely a must try!), Chu suggested a movie. All the boys wanted to see The Omen, knowing full well that Gay can’t stand horror films. They managed to convince her to go by offering to treat her.
So after checking the sked through my cellphone’s wap, we headed for Glorietta 4 and was just in time for the 11pm show.
In the end, we all had the same comment: “THAT WAS IT?!?” I must say, that was a huge disappointment. The child wasn’t that scary at all, and the ending will leave you hanging in the air.
There was more to come for the birthday celebrant, as Maya and I had one more trick up our sleeve.
The next day, we brought our dear friend to Fitness First Bodycare for a session of body scrub and massage. And what’s more, the three of us were doing it together! But since one room can accomodate only two people, Maya had to be separated.
We all chose the pumpkin scrub and proceeded to our rooms to strip and lie facedown on the massage bed. The masseuses then came and proceeded to scrub us, starting at the back of our legs and ending with our chests. I think I’ll pick the cherry scrub next time, pumpkin granules are a bit too rough. Once done, we were asked to rinse off the body scrub.
We showered then crept back into the room after a while. Once again, we got back on the beds and enjoyed full body massages. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such pampering bliss before. Gay was so pleased, she contemplated making this a monthly event.
Afterwards, we headed to Caltex Starmart and had some frappes and cakes while talking about all sorts of things, but mostly concentrating on someone’s “torn among three loves” story.
Then a certain guy called a certain someone and from the expression on her face while she talked to him, we established that this guy occupied prime space in her heart. End of discussion, then.
At night, the massage session continued between the celebrants. Then we just shook our heads at our kuya and ate who acted nowhere near their age when they commenced wrestling on the couch!
Not much harm they can do, I suppose, since both skinny. True to their zodiac sign Gemini…our very own twins.

i think so. i was brought up the same way. we had to eat every butil of rice on our plate. until now i’m still struggling to break the habit. i read in reader’s digest that this habit is one major cause of obesity, kasi even if ur not hungry na, u still struggle to eat. ask gim about gaba. that’s definitely a bisaya thing. =)
