Have you ever encountered a guy who drove you crazy? If you haven’t, consider yourself lucky. Because for a lot of women I know, there is usually one guy. Below are real life cases, with names changed to protect their identities.
Case 1: Angel is a girl-next-door with a pretty face. She once had a boyfriend who was so possessive that when she wanted out, he threatened suicide. Enter Matt, the wisecracking college classmate whom she has always had a crush on but whom she used to ignore because she was in a relationship and she didn’t want to feel like she was cheating. After her breakup, he sends her flowers and professes his love for her. She plays hard-to-get and is left hanging when he suddenly disappears for several months. He comes and goes and she is left wondering as to what his intentions really are. Even after they officially become a couple, he remains inexpressive and has such a loose hold on her that she wonders if he really loves her.
Case 2: Fay is your ultimate dream girl; boys wish she were theirs while girls wish they were her. She is used to guys falling all over themselves just to please her, showering her with flowers and chocolates and balloons and professing their undying love for her. She is used to being pursued by them all…except for that one guy she’s been crushing on since her elementary days, Chip. After college graduation, he finally asks her out. She prepares all afternoon for their date…only to get a last minute cancellation. For three years he keeps her guessing, asking her out once in a while and being sweet when she’s around…then completely forgetting her the moment they part, leaving her hovering over her cellphone and even hallucinating that it is ringing.
Case 3: Summer is a self-confessed expert at the art of flirting, and has the boys to prove it. She advises Fay and Angel on how to handle their boys and can’t imagine why they are having such a hard time getting these guys out of their heads…until she falls for her longtime friend Jack. At first it is Jack who likes her, but she turns him down for another guy. Years later when she is broken up, he is the one who has a girl. They hook up, and she thinks he loves her…but her friends ask, so why doesn’t he leave his official girlfriend for her, then? Her friends also can’t believe that this was typical Summer behavior, since the Summer they knew always had her boys wrapped around her finger, and never the other way around.
Case 4: Lily believes that the only solid foundation of a romantic relationship is friendship, and has fallen in love with most of her guy friends at one point or another. She does not believe in love at first sight and is quick to dismiss strangers or acquaintances who flirt with her without getting to know her first. Until one night she joins a speed dating event where she takes one look at Jeremy and feels an instant connection. He annoys her on purpose and spells “danger” all over, but to her horror, she finds herself drawn all the more. They go out on real dates after that, and she finds herself falling…for someone she barely knows!
Wow. I just realize I have enough good stuff to start a novel. What I wrote just read like the back page of a romance paperback, didn’t it? On with one of the hundred things to do before I die, then! ^^
