Iron Man 3 finally made it to Singapore’s big screens and we watched it yesterday. Mildred and I were most excited because he is our favorite Avenger. I even programmed this into my calendar so we wouldn’t forget to buy tickets.
Iron Man 3 follows not two but three prequels – Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Avengers. In fact, what happened in Avengers is referenced a lot. But it doesn’t matter if you haven’t seen any of those three films, its plot can stand alone and would still be enjoyable nonetheless. So yes, I do mean that it is enjoyable. Most definitely! We really loved it! It had lots of amazing action, fight scenes, special effects, hilarious lines and a love story – one between Tony Stark (Iron Man, duh) and the woman we’ve known since the first Iron Man film, Pepper Potts. “It’s different now. I have to protect the one thing I can’t live without. That’s you,” Tony himself points out, pointing to Pepper.

He didn’t really do a good job of doing that, by the way, when he got so enraged by what happened to his friend and body guard Happy. Yes, that is really his name, and coincidentally, did you know that he is played by Jon Favreau, the director of Iron Man and Iron Man 2? Yes, Iron Man 3 is directed by a different guy, Shane Black.
Happy gets hurt |
So anyway where was I? Oh yeah, Happy. Happy gets hurt, and Tony gets so mad that when the press asks him what he will do about this, he reacts the way we always do when we’re mad: stupidly. He threatens Mandarin, the name of the terrorist group who is responsible, “Come at me bro!” and leaves his home address. Well he doesn’t say it that way, of course, silly, he was obviously more eloquent than that.
Mandarin |
Of course when you threaten someone and they see it on the news, what do you think they will do? They come at you. With huge helicopters and massive firepower. And if your house whose address you so foolishly gave away is not equipped, what do you think happens? Well it gets destroyed, obviously. And so do you.
Pepper Potts with Iron Man’s helmet |
And Iron Man dies and Pepper weeps in a touching scene where she touches his Iron Man helmet to her face. The end.
Kidding. Of course I’m kidding! Did you honestly think that was how it would end? Yeesh.
I’m not going to detail the rest of the story in detail because some people might be allergic to spoilers, but let me just say that it gets way more interesting.
Tony finds himself far away from home where he needs to be a more creative mechanic and goes all MacGyver with the help of an unexpected new friend.
And if one Iron Man is awesome, then what happens if there are more? Awesome multiplied. They should have called this movie Iron Men.

Aside from more Iron Man suits in the mix, Tony has also improved his suits such that he could make them fly and attach themselves to him at his command, and all those moments he did these were uber fascinating to watch.
There were also lots of twists and shocking scenes that made us literally scream (at one point, someone asked, ‘what is this, a horror movie?’) and kept us at the edge of our seats. One of my favorite scenes was when Iron Man had to come to the rescue of a bunch of people falling from a plane. Watch out for that.
This is the last movie of the Iron Man trilogy, so it wrapped up the franchise with a neat little bow in the ending. It’s supposed to be a happy ending (oops, sorry, spoiler alert?) but it made me sad because I won’t see Iron Man onscreen anymore, and it made Mildred conclude: “All because of a woman!” Well as Sherlock would say: love is a dangerous disadvantage!
No, don’t ask me what happened, go watch it yourself. It’s really worth the time and money, promise.
And oh, don’t forget to wait until after all the credits have rolled. As with all Marvel films, this one has an additional scene at the very end. What’s different about this from previous after-credits scenes, though, is that it’s not an advertisement for the next Avengers film. I expected there to be a blurb about Thor 2, but no. I guess this is really the end for Iron Man, huh? 🙁
I leave you with the trailer below, in case you haven’t seen it yet.

I can't wait to see this, even though my favorite has always been Thor. Avengers Rock!
I've often wondered why people get crazy over turning certain ages. I've always liked where I am and looked forward to where I'm going.
I have an award for you at my site should you choose to accept it.

We saw this last week, too and loved it! I won't post spoilers, but did you not love what they did with the villains? I think Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce are awesome.

I also like that line the one henchman said when Tony was about to blast him: "I don't even like working here! These guys are weird!" or something like that… so fun!

You mean the twist with the villains? Yes I loved it! Ben is such a versatile actor there!

Yes we laughed out loud when that happened. Hahaha!
