I finally got the social committee to agree to my masquerade ball theme idea for our office’s annual dinner & dance. I was elated for a few hours before realizing that ball gowns cost a lot of money. Uh oh.
But then my friend found a costume rental place which rented out fab Victorian ball gowns with matching masks and chokers for a mere fraction of the cost of a new gown. Isn’t that awesome?
I will blog about that gown when I actually wear it, but for now, let’s talk about how renting something can save you a lot of money. Everyone wants to save money, right? Especially broke College students.

I see a lot of broke college student memes around the internet and I can still remember what it was like to be one a long some time ago. As if the high tuition fees isn’t enough of a problem, there are all the other expenses like school supplies, school project materials, and required books for all the subjects.
So when I heard about Campus Book Rentals, I thought, wow, that is an awesome idea! Books cost a lot, and after you’re done with them, you won’t use them after the semester is over, right? (Oh please don’t tell me you still do?) So why not save money by renting instead of buying them?
Here are the perks of renting from them:
-save 40-90% off of bookstore prices
-free shipping both ways
-can highlight in the textbooks
-flexible renting periods
-they donate to Operation Smile with each textbook rented
Here’s how it works:
However, if you (or your parents) have already bought the books, you can still benefit from the same company using their other program called Rent Back. This new initiative allows you to rent out the books you already own to other students and make 2-4x more money than you’d make through buyback options. Sweet, right?
Here’s how that works:
I definitely wished this program had existed back when I was in college! I would’ve made a lot of money from the books that my scholarship paid for. ;P

. . .Victorian ball gown? With a mask and choker? That sounds so awesome. Cannot wait to see photos. I wish textbook renting had been around in my college days, but hey, I wasn't a science major so my books were on the cheap side anyway 🙂

that's a really genius idea. my books were so expensive I had to live off macaroni for weeks in order to pay for them!
