Dear Dred,
Whenever you gush that you are my #1 fan, I feel what Sherlock must feel towards John. Mostly surprise at the admiration, but also a deep gratitude that I don’t quite know how to show. Like Sherlock, I have a problem with physically showing my emotions. I always prefer to hide behind the safety of my written words. (And even so, I can’t stand it when people read what I wrote for them in front of me and even literally once ran away screaming when a friend tried to do so. I probably need help or something.)
I want you to know how much it touches my heart everytime you say something nice about me, even though I rarely show it. Poker face, that’s me. I’m sorry if I’ve also haven’t been as complimentary to you, but I do admire you a lot, really, especially in the work aspect, like on your recent promotion. Congrats on that! And your other traits as well, like your confidence, your devotion to your family, and how you’d do anything for your friends.
I’m not gonna say that I don’t have friends because I’ve only got one because you’ll know that’s a blatant lie, but in the short (okay, 3 years isn’t really short) time that we have become friends, you have become one of favorite, closest ones. And perhaps if a Moriarty came into my life and asked me to jump off a roof to save you, I probably would. (Or I’d just fake it, pretend to die and start over somewhere else, like I say I want to do, sometimes.)
Belated happy birthday and I wish you’ll get all those things you wish for when we have those kinds of conversations. 😉
Dear Maya,
We have come a really long way from being those teenage girls who sat in the same row of chairs for almost every class and giggled at how cute our teacher was. Back then I never imagined that we’d end up being roommates in Manila, then Makati, and then colleagues in Singapore, and still stay close friends after 13 years.
You know how much I appreciate our friendship, and I am really glad that we “grew up” together and isn’t it amazing how some of the things that we just talked about has actually come true? Here’s to wishing that all the other stuff we dreamed of then will be in our grasp someday. Belated happy birthday!
I just sent off 12 of these all over the world for the Christmas card exchange with fellow bloggers. 🙂 pic.twitter.com/jhvE6dxhMh
