The biggest holiday in Singapore is coming up next week – Chinese New Year. Malls and stores are all decked out in Chinese New Year decors and peddling mandarins, lucky charms, and red underwear (for good luck). Meanwhile, salons are charging additional “Chinese New Year” fees for haircuts and pedicures, because everyone is getting them in preparation for the New Year. Law of demand and supply, folks.
Another common thing you’ll see everywhere – Chinese horoscopes. My former employer was such a devout believer in this that his number one question for all his potential employees is: “What is your birth date?” I thought he just wanted to know their age, turns out he wanted to know their Chinese sign. He told me he would never hire a rooster or a snake because those would betray him. True story.
I was born in the year of the dog. Maybelle (my roommate) snapped a photo of my 2014 horoscope when she went to buy groceries one day.
I don’t know if this is true, but I definitely would love to have that promotion and that special someone coming into my life, eh? 😀
Last night I was discussing horoscopes with my friends, and as what always happens, one google led to another and somehow landed me on this site about using the peach blossom luck formula to attract love into your life. Wait… peach blossom luck again? This is the first time I’ve ever heard of the term and suddenly I’m seeing it everywhere. Weird.
Anyway, this peach blossom luck formula is used in feng shui. You have to know your Chinese zodiac sign, then check this chart to determine your peach luck ally and where to display it.
“Since you’re a rat,” I told my friend Dred, “Your peach luck ally is the rooster, and you should display it on the west.”
“Aha!” Dred cackled. “Joc is a rooster! When we’re roommates, I will ask her to position her bed on the west of our bedroom!”
“Err… I don’t think that’s how that’s supposed to work!” I protested.
“And as for you,” she went on, undeterred, “Nantoy is a rabbit! Just ask him to sit on the east of your bedroom!”
“That is so weird,” I giggled. “I have a better idea, I’ll just frame a picture of him and put that on the east! Then Maybelle will wonder if I have a crush on him! Oh my God!”
“I’ll just buy a clock that makes the sound of a rooster every hour!” was Dred’s next brilliant idea. “Cock-a-doodle-doo!”
“I should just buy a rabbit’s foot,” I mused. “Then it would be doubly lucky!”
I don’t know how long we went on about this. We somehow got sidetracked finding out what signs were compatible with ours, and I was miffed when Dred’s perfect match was a dragon, which is Benedict Cumberbatch’s sign (it’s funny that he played the role of an actual dragon in The Hobbit). “Noooo!!!!” I wailed, after finding out that dragons and dogs are not compatible at all. Damn it, there goes my dream of marrying him. Oh well.
Upon reaching home, though, I dissolved in a fit of giggles upon seeing this in my bedroom:
I didn’t have to look far for that rabbit after all! LOL!
Do you know your chinese zodiac sign? Do you believe in horoscopes?

I love reading horoscopes! I don`t always beleive them but it`s just fun to read them! I think my chinese zodiac sign is the pig.

I trust horoscopes more sometimes than other times, but what I've been thinking about lately is that this upcoming new year is going to be the year of the Horse, which is what I am! And I'm pretty sure (like 100%) that that means this is going to be MY year! A great year for me. I don't know why because I don't always trust things like that, but this just seems like it's meant

LOL that last part. Omg.

Yes, it's fun to believe in the good things. Have something to look forward to, even if they could just be baloney.

Yay! That is something to be happy about indeed! Good luck, horsey! 😛
