The highlight of last week is that I finally got my new passport, so I can travel again! Yippee!
Meanwhile, our embassy is so far away from my office and insists on making life difficult for us OFWs by not being open on Sundays anymore, so I had to take vacation leaves for 2 days – the day I applied for it, and the day I collected it.
I lodged an appointment online last January. I showed up at the embassy with my old passport and S$102 (yeah, so expensive!) then they took my picture, thumb prints, and digital signature, and put all this and other information into a computer. Then they asked me to look over everything, make sure it was correct, then gave me a collection form which stated that I was to come back on March 20.
So I came back last Thursday to collect it. Before I went to the embassy, though, I decided to have lunch in Jollibee, the most popular fast food in the Philippines which recently opened a branch in Singapore. I had a hard time deciding what to eat because I was craving so many things, so in the end I just bought some other stuff for takeaway that I could eat the next day.
It was raining very hard, so I had to ride a cab to get to the embassy from Lucky Plaza. I had to join a really long queue, but there were a lot of cabs, so it moved quickly.
When I got to the embassy, the guard eyed my legs and told me, “I’m sorry, but you can’t come in because you’re wearing shorts.”
“No, these are not shorts!” I protested, then promptly pulled down my mini skirt that had rolled up during my cab ride. Upon seeing that, he let me in.
I was the third person to be served on window 11, and was quickly able to collect my new passport. The woman asked me to check the details, make sure everything was correct. It was. I wasn’t happy with my picture because my cheeks are too red. Oh well.
The rain had stopped, so I was able to walk to Far East Shopping Centre, where I had an appointment for a diamond peel facial at Beauty Talk Shop. For some reason I have a lot of pimples lately, so it was a painful ordeal.
Afterwards, I had dinner at another famous restaurant in the Philippines that has a branch in Singapore – Gerry’s Grill. I met up with a couple of gal pals. One has a new boyfriend, while the other just lost hers, all within 2 days of each other. We ordered grilled squid, sisig, pinakbet, green mango with bagoong, and halo-halo. Everything was so delicious. *Burp.*
So all in all, it was a vacation leave well spent.
