I am a ridiculous lady who has the shallowest pool of tears in all of humankind. Okay, maybe that’s a tad exaggerated. But I bet if we ranked everyone, I would be in the upper 10th percentile.
SERIAL WEEPER |
I cry very easily. I have been known to cry in public vehicles while reading articles or books, and have wept over more than half the movies I’ve ever seen, even those that are not supposed to be drama. In fact the picture above was taken while I was watching the movie Ted, a comedy film about a freaking teddy bear. See what I mean?
Here are 7 things that will set me off.
1. Death
2. Heartbreak
3. Someone sacrificing himself for someone else out of love
4. A sweet gesture of love (like wedding proposals)
5. Dreams dashed
6. Dreams fulfilled
7. Something so beautiful (usually a beautiful voice, like Elphaba’s in Wicked)
Last night we watched two of my favourite films on movies on demand – Frozen and About Time, and even though I had already seen them before, I cried for both again, for reasons 1 and 3.
And then this morning, I was reading this article about Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 bound for Beijing mysteriously dropping off the radar, never making it to its destination yesterday and remaining missing despite over 24 hours of search operations. This part made me teary-eyed:
Several Twitter users retweeted a picture of an English translation of what could resemble a message that air traffic control in Beijing could have sent to flight MH370.
“MH370, this is air traffic controller hoping of seeing you, if you can hear us please maintain current altitude and fly direct to destination. We have got you approval for direct, other airlines will try to avoid your routing. We are happy to give you priority to land. Weather enroute is good and Beijing temperature is 5 deg Celcius, a little bit cold. When landed please wear your winter coat and remember to hug your loved one on arrival. They love you so much. Good day.”
I really hope they find that plane soon. Poor families in misery, not knowing whether to keep on hoping or to accept defeat and start grieving. Can you imagine the terrible emotional limbo they are in right now?
But what is up with those two passengers who apparently went onboard using stolen passports, though? Could this be a highjack situation?

I am not a huge cryer but whenever my husband thinks something is sad on TV he will immediately start staring at me to see if I will start crying which means I never do because I get focused on the fact he is staring at me and not the show!

I am with you, certain things always trigger tears. Like animals and the elderly, I have yet to make it through the movie Up without crying!

Haha! I also can't cry when there are people looking. When I watched Titanic with my family I got a headache from holding it in. I cried in my room right after it.

Animals and the elderly also make me cry! That Up montage scene definitely brings the waterworks, and so do all movies with animals dying in it, like Marley and Me.

haha!

I'm with you on that… I find myself tearing up over a lot of things. It's the big ending music that really gets me!
Dee says
Oh yeah, that's a culprit for me too!

I am so like you in the weeping department. Songs, books…I have to be careful about reading in public since I can't control the tears either!
Dee says
Welcome to the upper percentile! It can be embarrassing sometimes!
