Last Friday, my friends and I got some amazing news of the “achievement unlocked” kind and felt that this merited a congratulatory celebration. So the next day we commemorated this milestone at Paul, a world-renowned French boulangerie-pâtisserie (bakery and cake shop) located in Ngee Ann City. I had never been there before and as I love French food, I was excited about the trip.
There was a short queue when we got there, but we were immediately seated. We decided to each order a high tea set which costs S$12.90, of which there were two options – café surprise (coffee) or thé surprise (tea). Each set comes with either a cappuccino or tea in a pot and three kinds of pastries – macarons, crème brûlée and moelleux au chocolat.
I loved everything on my plate but I realized that they were probably the wrong combination to eat together because they are all very sweet. I guess it didn’t help matters that I had requested if I could get the flavoured cappuccino instead of the normal one, and opted for butterscotch.
We also all ordered a piece of bread each – brioche, croissant, and pain au chocolat. Guess which one I had. It was the chocolate one, of course. I liked it, but as I said, everything else was already sweet so I couldn’t appreciate it as much.
I have never been to France so I wouldn’t know if their food is up to par with authentic French pastries. All I know is I liked them. Sure they weren’t mind blowingly unforgettably delicious, but good enough for me to not mind coming back someday.
As for the ambiance, it was also nice enough. We were able to have a fat chat in the open veranda type area; a lovely place for conversations and celebrations.
My roommate later told me that Paul is supposedly famous for its hot chocolate. So I said we should definitely go there and try it one of these days!

There are a few Paul's around London. The hot chocolate is good- very rich and creamy so you don't need a big glass 🙂 xx

I'm really regretting that I didn't do my research before heading there! I definitely need to go back to try their hot chocolate!
