I attended my first ever blogger event more than a week ago, and I had a lot of fun learning about new things (#nerdalert). The event was a cooking demo conducted by celebrity chef Anna Phua which was sponsored by Starwater Ionizer, so I learned two things – (1) all about alkaline water, and (2) how to prepare some easy healthy recipes.

First – alkaline water. This was my first time to hear about this, and I found the topic quite interesting. A speaker named David gave a detailed lecture about it.
He explained that we were born alkaline, but as we grow older, we become more acidic, thanks to multiple factors like our diet (80% acidic), lifestyle (smoking, drinking, stress, irregular sleep), and environment (pollution). The more acidic we get, the more our bodies are prone to illness and disease.
Alkaline water can neutralize the acidity of the body. It restores the PH in the body and detoxifies wastes while providing your body with much needed immunity boost. What is alkaline water? It is water that has undergone the process of being separated into its acidic and alkaline forms, using an ionizer like Starwater. Apparently this technology has been in Japan for years, and one ionizer can be found in every 12 households there. So this is secret to the longevity of the lifespans of people who live there.
David then gave us a visual of just how acidic certain liquids are. He showed us a color scale from red being the most acidic to purple being the most alkaline. Then he poured different liquids into glasses marked with what brand liquid they were, then used a dropper to drop some liquid and we watched in stunned fascination as the liquids switched colours before our very eyes. It was no surprise that sprite was acidic, but can you believe that 100 Plus is also very much so? We also found out that Singapore’s tap water is more alkaline than Life mineral water. Naturally, alkaline water was a perfect shade of purple. Wow. How eye-opening. I suddenly realize how important it is to choose my drinks wisely. We really do need an ionizer in our household!
After he was done, it was Chef Anna Phua’s turn. She explained that she was a huge believer of ionized water for years now, after having observed that some people who looked a lot younger than their age drank the stuff. She said that it helped you lose weight as well. Oh gosh now I really want an ionizer!!
She then proceeded to demonstrate how it was easy to cook some delicious but healthy dishes using alkaline water, and then we got to sample them all as they were ladled out on little plastic plates and passed around. Yummy! I especially liked the pear salad and brown rice with sesame seeds!
