My high school classmate Katrina, who is now based in Hong Kong, was in Singapore for a work-related trip, so she contacted me and our 2 other high school classmates here (Kaye and Elma) to ask if we could meet up for dinner a couple of weeks ago.
We ended up having dinner at Viva Mexico in Cuppage Terrace. It should be obvious that the place serves Mexican food. I decided to try my first ever chimichanga, which was delicious but so huge that I had a hard time finishing it. We also shared a pitcher of tamarind margarita.
The funny thing was, even though we’re not really close friends (well except for Elma, who has lived in this country with me for a while now) and have not talked in a while and don’t have much in common anymore except our age and our hometown, we somehow found a lot of things to talk about. Or perhaps the differences in our industries and statures in life gave us all the more topics to cover. Actually, no, that wasn’t it at all. We mostly talked about something that we did have in common – gossip about our high school classmates. Oops. Teehee.
We had so much to blab about that dinner was not enough time to cover it. So we looked for a cafe and ended up in Starbucks, where we chatted until way after midnight.
I’m glad Kat invited us so we could catch up and reminisce, to feel like teenagers again for a brief moment.
