My P&G friends chose Tokyo Tonteki in Greenbelt 5 as our dinner place because they wanted to try a restaurant they had never been to before.
I ordered their bestseller, the pork tonteki, which is what the restaurant is named after. Tonteki is actually premium pork loin steak.
Drew ordered chicken steak with tonteki sauce and Arni had the chopped version of my order.
Each meal came with miso soup, rice, and bottomless shredded cabbage which you could season with any of 4 condiments – chili, mayonnaise, sesame dressing, and vinaigrette. I loved the last 2. Drew liked the cabbage so much that he kept on asking for refills.
As for the tonteki, I thought it was really delicious but realized something. “It tastes just like adobo!” I remarked after my first bite. My friends laughed and agreed with my assessment.
I also tried Drew’s chicken and liked it, but not as much as the tonteki. But then again adobo is my favorite Filipino dish, so I may be biased.
I also liked the refillable red iced tea that I ordered and had so many refills.
As for the place, it had well spaced tables and good service. It was a good venue for a catch up with friends.
