On the day after my brother’s wedding, his wife’s family decided to hold an impromptu lunch “party” at their uncle’s farm.
I am used to farms because my dad’s parents were farmers and we used to have reunions on their farm back when I was younger.
To be honest, I prefer the city to farm life, but it’s nice to experience it once in a while.
They whipped up a bunch of delicious food which we all devoured with gusto with our bare hands.
Then they brought out a karaoke machine and we sang the afternoon away. Fun fact: we call this “videoke” in the Philippines and it is a typical Filipino hobby.
Even my mom, who normally doesn’t do karaoke, joined in.
At one point, my dad sang a song with a catchy ballroom tune so I decided to dance with him. My dad used to be a member of a dance troupe in his youth, so he is a really great dancer. I let him take the lead, and as he spun me around, I remembered how much I used to love doing this!
Everyone suddenly became a lot livelier and wanted in on the action. Next thing you know, my dad was dancing with my brother’s mother-in-law and then her sister.
But while my dad was busy playing dance instructor, my brother made his wife’s nephew feel like Superman. He giggled as my brother lifted him above his head, and kept asking for more. I miss that too! Oh, to be a kid again.
I had fun until the sun disappeared and the mosquitoes appeared. Not fun at all. By then I couldn’t wait to leave. Like I said, I’m a city girl at heart.
I had a lot of fun being a country girl for a while, though. 🙂
