My friends and I welcomed the new year in a rented chalet from Goldkist Beach Resort at East Coast Park.
We had a few of the superstitions down pat.
Polka dots for money, check.
Twelve or thirteen round fruits (for good health?), check.
Pork for prosperity or so you won’t go hungry during the year because pigs push their food forward when they eat, check.
We forgot to jump up and down though. So we won’t grow taller this year! Darn it.
This was our spread. Nantoy cooked his favourite spaghetti and macaroni, and bought stingray, satay, and veggies at the nearby food court. The roast pork was bought from the mall. It was really delicious! It was my favourite in the entire meal, but everything was good too.
We ate a very late dinner while watching the movie Real Steel on the TV.
At midnight, there were no fireworks in the sky, just some guys lighting up sparklers on the beach.
The only noise we contributed to scare away bad spirits was our yelling and the bottle of wine’s cork being popped open.
Look at this bottle of Moscato wine. Ain’t she pretty? I found it on Duty Free.
It was so delicious, too!
We enjoyed taking “barkada shots” with it. Lol.
After we had drank our wine and called our families back home to wish them happy new year, we settled down for a couple of rounds of Cluedo.
I pulled a sneaky move which confused everyone in the first round, but I did not win. Dred did. Nobody won the second round because we all got misled about the murder room, haha!
We finally decided to sleep at around 4 am. There were two beds, one small and one big, which were just enough for 5 people to sleep on. There was an air conditioner and electric fan, so we were really comfortable in there.
The next morning we woke up at around 8am and decided to take a long walk to the hawker center to buy coffee and tea. It was fun because of the beautiful view of the sea.
Ayihee! Post-nup? Nantoy and Monica just got married during the holidays! I could not attend because it was right after my brother’s wedding and I could not fly over there so quickly.
We sipped our drinks on the long walk back to our chalet, where we proceeded to eat last night’s leftovers for breakfast. Then we had to check out at 11:30 am and headed to our own homes.
I enjoyed our low key new year celebration. Hope you enjoyed yours as well!
Happy new year to you! 🙂
