Yesterday, Singapore turned 50, so I decided to go and catch the festivities for the first time since I moved here.
I invited my friends to come. Armar found a copy of the program and sent it to us.
We went out to Marina Bay to find a spot to watch the jets. We found a not so great spot near Fullerton Bay. Boy oh boy it was super crowded! There was a guy standing behind Arlyn and me and we were both annoyed because his hands were digging into our backs.
After an hour of waiting, the black knights finally made an appearance in the sky.
It was very impressive, especially that 50 formation!
They had other impressive stunts that wowed the crowd.
When they were done, we decided to leave and go into Armar’s office to watch the fireworks. It wasn’t the best view but it was a comfortable position so I prefer it over the crowded outdoors. Plus we had free drinks, too! 😬
As we had to shoot through the glass, the reflection showed. Luckily someone gave us a tip of using a black umbrella to remove the reflection.
It worked! So amazing!
Here are some pictures I was able to take.
The fireworks were so spectacular! I uploaded a video snippet of it on my instagram in case you wanna watch, but I bet other people took better vids, so just search Youtube.
Then we walked towards the MRT and when we saw the huge crowd, we decided to wait it out after the event and have dinner in Lau Pa Sat first, but that was crowded too! It took a while to find a table.
Then Arlyn and I tried to buy food from so many stalls that had such long lines, and finally ended back where we had began, only to see that Armar and his wife already had food. They had bought fish soup at the stall in front of our table. That’s where we ended up buying food too. 😅
We caught a bus home. All the bus and MRT rides were free that day. So was data plan on Singtel, for four days, at that. But the best SG50 deal is probably the 50% discount we had on our tax.

How fun! That would be neat to celebrate with such a young country.
