A hotel staycation had always been in our Singapore bucket list, so I suggested doing that for my joint birthday celebration with Armar.
Arlyn chose Carlton City Hotel and we booked a room using booking.com.
We met up at Tanjong Pagar station and walked to the hotel on Saturday afternoon. I was wowed by their reception area.
Armar asked the receptionist if we could get an upgrade since it was my birthday the next day, strategically placing our birthday cake on the counter. She agreed and said that we had been upgraded to a Carlton Club room on the 26th floor, the highest floor possible. Yes! 😀
I loved the room. It was tastefully decorated and the single beds were quite wide, enough for two people to sleep on.
There were a few Cable channels on the huge flatscreen TV and we were able to catch a few movies during our stay, including The Tourist, Divergent, and The Giver.
But my favourite part was the bathtub. 😀
For reference, that is always my favourite part of any hotel room. 😀
We left the hotel to have a late lunch at a sushi place in a nearby mall.
Then we had coffee at Starbucks before heading back to the hotel to have a power nap before dinner, because that’s what happens when you get older – power naps before dinner become a necessity. :-/
Upon waking, we freshened up, then took the lift to Graffiti Sky Bar.
Armar had done his research beforehand, so he knew exactly what to order: “Three flutes of sparkling wine, and can we please have cherries placed in them?” The waiter obliged.
Armar, you little genius! 😀
We decided to eat something more substantial elsewhere, and ended up having some delicious ramen at a nearby restaurant.
Then we headed back to the hotel for dessert – birthday cake!
Birthday greetings were shouted at the stroke of midnight.
Then we drifted off to sleep shortly after, because… #signsofaging.
The next day, the siblings had to leave the hotel early to go to work, while I blissfully slept on.
When I woke up, I asked for a late check out, read a book while soaking in the bathtub, then ate a slice of birthday cake on the bed while watching The Mentalist on TV before checking out at the last possible minute.
Later that night, I had dinner at Swensens with other friends (Cate & Tatsie), then watched The Man from U.N.C.L.E. on the cinema with Gelle and Joey.
Yup, I had a very happy birthday indeed, thank you very much.
P.S. Today I had a couple of surprises – one from my friends, the other from my team.
I also had surprise birthday presents from friends and Sephora (LOL). Love them! 😀

Happy Belated Birthday! I’m glad you had a good time. I think stay cations don’t get enough credit. Especially when you live in a city like you do, I imagine there would always be something to be seen.
