I’ve wanted to try Chicken Up’s melon bingsu for a long time, so when we decided to get dinner before watching The Martian, I grabbed the chance.
But first, we had to decide what to eat for the mains. There were a lot of options, so I loved that their menu had a separate portion highlighting their top 10 best dishes, so I didn’t need to ask my usual “so what’s your bestseller?”
I had only tried the #1 before and could attest that it really tasted delicious and probably deserved its spot, so I suggested that and let the others decide on what else to order.
They had a separate page for desserts, too, and as you can see, melon bingsu is at the #1 spot!
So here’s what we finally ordered:
Everything above was delicious. The chicken wings had crispy skin with tasty meat and the fries are quite possibly one of the best fries I have ever had.
But the star of the night was this:
Bingsu is a Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings such as chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and Azuki beans. The snack is highly popular in Korea. (Thanks, Wikipedia!)
It looks really pretty, doesn’t it? I’m amazed at the effort that must have gone into carving those melon balls and arranging them into this piece of art. It was almost a shame to pick it apart.
It’s the complete package – pretty and delicious! You know how some food are just Instagrammable but don’t really taste that good? This is not it. This is so deliciously sweet and creamy and full of flavour. So good, that even when the matcha bingsu came, we kept on going back to it.
The Matcha Bingsu paled in comparison to the melon one. It was too dry, perhaps because we had to pour in the milk ourselves, which did not seem to be enough. We had to ask for more so it would achieve the same creamy consistency of the melon one.
Next time we should order two melon bingsus instead. 😜
Halfway through slurping down the bingsu, Monica told me that she had told Dred that if she and Nantoy want to eat somewhere delicious, they no longer consult HungryGoWhere, but DeeDeeGoWhere instead. Haha! Well, consider this added to that.
It was a meal worth having, so if you’re ever in the east, you should definitely check this place out.
