My mom just posted a video of a girl named Daniela Andrade singing a Christmas song.
Christmas has always given me mixed bittersweet feelings of happiness and sadness.
I guess nostalgia is part of it. It reminds me of all my Christmases past.
Also, the Christmas spirit is incredibly lacking in Singapore. Though there are decorations everywhere, too, it’s just different in the Philippines, where aside from decorations, people also sing carols, give presents, throw parties, and generally there is a peace-on-earth-goodwill-to-men vibe in the air.
I asked my friend Tyne in Canada if Christmases there were happy. She said it was cold but happier than the ones in Singapore.
Perhaps it’s because Singapore is not a Christian country, so most of the people don’t really celebrate Christmas here.
This has gotten me thinking about flying home for Christmas, but the exorbitant plane fares give me pause, as well as the scary bullet scam stories at our airports.
But then again maybe it’s not the place, but me. I just need to summon the Christmas spirit within me.
But that’s still two or so months away. For now I need to summon the Halloween spirit. Bye, gotta go suit up for a Halloween event!
