Today is the birthday of my friend Yves but since she’s travelling in Paris right now, she celebrated her birthday last Saturday at their condo’s function hall.
She had Filipino food from a popular caterer, and we enjoyed the delicious meal. There was so much food that she asked us to “tapao” (take home) some of them. There was so much that I was able to feed me and my friends for lunch the next day! 😄
But that wasn’t the highlight for me. That came when she brought out all the pints of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream she had in her freezer.
Yves works for Unilever so she gets 50% discount. So lucky, huh?
She said we were welcome to open all of them. So a couple of her friends and I decided to pretend like we were on “Master Chef” and do a taste test of all seven flavours and then crown our personal winner at the end.
It was so fun! We opened one pint at a time, each took a spoonful, tasted it, then gave our verdict and rank. 😄
I had tried at least four of these flavours before, but never together. I had always liked Everything But The, New York Super Chunk Fudge, and Hazed & Confused separately before, but on this day I realised how sickeningly sweet Hazed & Confused is compared to the two.
In the end, I proved to myself that my favourite – Everything But The – is indeed my favourite. So I gave it the cone crown! 👸
I love the combination of both chocolate and vanilla ice cream – they balance each other out and keep the concoction from being too sweet even though it has everything but the kitchen sink in it. 😋
Years ago, before this flavour was made, I loved the similar one called Chocolate Macadamia which had the same choco-vanilla base but just chocolate-covered macadamia nuts in it. I told Yves about it and she said she didn’t remember it. I insisted that it really did exist and that Sash, who was also in the party, also loved it. So I looked through my blog for evidence and found this old pic:
“Oh my God! Pabebe pa kayo noon!” Yves gasped upon seeing the photo. We all laughed uproariously. (Sorry I don’t know how to translate what she said to English. It’s related to a viral Filipino thing that would take a while to explain, even if I could somehow find the words. 😥)
I later found out that this flavour is now in Ben & Jerry’s flavour graveyard. Perhaps not too many people like macadamia nuts because I found another macadamia flavour in its graveyard.
As for the other flavours – well all the core flavours were my least favourite in the bunch. Chunky Monkey is banana based, and while I like banana, I think I’d like it better if it were mixed with chocolate ice cream too. Chocolate Therapy is Yves’s fave and it tastes like chocolate cake in ice cream form and is delicious indeed. It’s #3 on my list, next to EBT and NYSFC.
As for my two co-judges, they crowned/coned New York Super Fudge Chunk and Boom Chocolatta.
To each his own! What about you? What is your favourite Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavour?
I’m glad I went to the party. It was fun!
Yves said we should go back there to go swimming sometime, and I just might do that because their pool looks so inviting!

My favorite ice cream of Ben and Jerry’s is Boom Chocolatta Cookie Core Ice Cream with Mocha & Caramel Ice-Creams along with Chocolate Cookies and a Chocolate Cookie Core. I’ve tried this ice-cream near by me, one time and man! It’s my favorites! It’s the bomb! Ha-Ha. That’s my favorite! ^u^
