Synopsis
A cryptic message from the past leads James Bond (Daniel Craig) to Mexico City and Rome, where he meets the beautiful widow (Monica Bellucci) of an infamous criminal.
After infiltrating a secret meeting, 007 uncovers the existence of the sinister organization SPECTRE. Needing the help of the daughter of an old nemesis, he embarks on a mission to find her.
As Bond ventures toward the heart of SPECTRE, he discovers a chilling connection between himself and the enemy (Christoph Waltz) he seeks.
Verdict
It was a good film, but not a great one. I mean it was watchable, but not a favourite.
It has the James Bond signature awesome fight scenes that have you holding your breath, as well as the sleek gadget in the form of the beautiful custom made-to-order silver two-door Aston Martin DB10 coupé which was made and developed specifically for the purpose of this picture.
My problem was with the plot. I can’t pinpoint my exact problem with it. It was just so lacklustre, overall. Skyfall was better.
I had such high hopes for the characters played by Christoph Waltz and Andrew Scott, two of the best villain actors I’ve ever watched, but their roles here paled in comparison to their iconic turns in Inglourious Basterds and Sherlock. So disappointed. 😒
I guess James Bond was never meant to be funny, so I can’t complain about the lack of that. But that is probably why in terms of this year’s spy films, I prefer Kingsman and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation.
My friend Nantoy was so unhappy with the movie that he sent me this:
Top 5 Fails of Spectre
1. Not enough ladies.
2. No plot twist. So corny.
3. Why did a cutting-edge facility get blown up by just one pistol shot?
4. Seriously, still waiting for a plot twist.
5. OMG the movie ended with just one lady.
He doesn’t want to count Monica Bellucci as a Bond girl because she was a widow. Don’t ask me why, ask him! 😅
Speaking of her, here’s a fun fact about her – at 50 years old, she’s the oldest ever actress to play a Bond girl. The next oldest Bond girl was Honor Blackman, who was 38 when she starred in Goldfinger. 💃
One last trivia about this movie – it’s the most expensive James Bond movie ever, costing over $300 million. I’m sure it’ll recover that cost and more, even though it’s not as good as the others in the franchise, simply because it’s Bond, James Bond.
Have you seen the film? What did you think of it?
