“Which Disney Princess are you?” my friend Tyne asked me sometime last week.
Apparently a friend of hers had asked her the same question, so she was curious about what my answer was.
I suggested that we both blog our answers to the question, so here goes.
My answer is the Little Mermaid, Ariel.
Why?
It’s not because her seashell bra top is colour purple, which is my favourite colour. That’s just a coincidence.
It’s because like Ariel, I was always obsessed with leaving my hometown and moving somewhere else.
The song “Part of Your World” was my most favourite Disney song ever, probably because I could relate to it a lot. In fact I still have the lyrics memorised until now, and one of my friends was astonished that one time when I suddenly sang the whole song from memory. That’s how much I love it!
Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat?
Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?
Wouldn’t you think I’m the girl,
The girl who has everything
Look at this trove, treasures untold
How many wonders can one cavern hold
Looking around here, you’d think
Sure, she’s got everything
I’ve got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I’ve got whozits and whatsits galore
You want thingamabobs? I’ve got twenty
But who cares? No big deal, I want more
I wanna be where the people are
I wanna see, wanna see them dancin’
Walking around on those – what do you call ’em? Oh – feet!
Flippin’ your fins, you don’t get too far
Legs are required for jumpin’, dancin’
Strolling along down a – what’s that word again? Street!
Up where they walk, up where they run
Up where they stay all day in the sun
Wanderin’ free – wish I could be
Part of that world
What would I give if I could live out of these waters?
What would I pay to spend a day warm on the sand?
Bet’cha on land they understand
Bet they don’t reprimand their daughters
Bright young women sick of swimmin’
Ready to stand
And I’m ready to know what the people know
Ask them my questions and get some answers
What’s a fire and why does it – what’s the word – burn?
When’s it my turn?
Wouldn’t I love,
Love to explore that shore up above
Out of the sea
Wish I could be
Part of that world
I did manage to leave my hometown, which was every bit as wonderful as I thought it would be.
But even so, until this day, I still get ridiculously excited when I travel and get to experience things I had only ever read about or seen on television/movies before.
Until this day, I can still sing the reprise lines in relation to parts of the world that I had never been in, like so:
What would I give to be where you are
What would I pay to stay there beside you
What would I do to see you smiling at me?
Where would we walk? Where would we run?
If we could stay all day in the sun
Just you and me, and I could be part of your world
I don’t know when, I don’t know how
But I know something’s starting right now
Watch and you’ll see
Someday I’ll be part of your world
Now tell me, which Disney Princess are you?

I’m very unhappy with the Disney Princess situation, as it happens. They have yet to have one with blonde hair and brown eyes (like me) which is outrageous as this is the true markings of an English Rose. I’m going to write to Disney about it, I am.

What an outrage indeed! Disney needs to hear (or read?) about this indeed!
