I’m sure you’ve heard of Bioderma, maker of the world’s most popular micellar water. Well, they’ve come up with a Sebium Range which includes two new oil-fighting products: Sebium Lotion and Sebium Mat Control. I have combination oily skin, so I was thrilled to be able to try these products.
BIODERMA SEBIUM LOTION, $33.90, 200ML
This non-sticky toning lotion is specially formulated to soothe and treat oily skin. It contains a blend of active ingredients that help balance skin’s pH, reduce excess oil and keep skin hydrated.
KEY BENEFITS:
• Provides 8-hour lasting hydration thanks to Glycerin.
• Regulates skin’s pH to a healthy level and limits the growth of P.acnes bacteria with Capryloyl Glycine (amino acid).
• Reduces sebum production and has anti-bacterial properties with the help of Zinc Gluconate and Vitamin B6.
• Gently exfoliates and refines skin’s texture with Salicylic Acid.
• Tightens pores thanks to astringent properties of Mushroom Extract.
TO USE: Pour onto cotton pad and sweep across skin in an outward motion, or pour onto palm and pat into skin with fingertips. Avoid eyes and lips. For best results, use together with Sebium Mat Control for optimal shine-control and hydration.
BIODERMA SEBIUM MAT CONTROL, $36.90, 30ML
Say goodbye to greasy skin with the revolutionary Bioderma Sebium Mat Control, a daily moisturiser that provides just the right balance of shine control and hydration. This gentle moisturiser helps to effectively control excess oil, soothe skin and prevent dryness.

The Bioderma Sebium range targets the source of oily skin by biologically regulating the quality of skin’s sebum. There are 3 factors that affect skin’s sebum:
Hormones can be quite annoying, am I right? I usually get a bunch of pimples on my chin before my period, but that didn’t happen when I was using these products. Bioderma’s Fluidactiv™ Patent is the only patent in the market that biologically regulates quality of sebum similar to that of healthy skin and stops the process which causes pimples and clogged pores to form.
Here is a before and after photo of me using the two products:
There was more than 8 hours in between photos, without retouching or using blotting paper, and I didn’t even use primer. Now I didn’t retain my mattified look in the morning, but I looked like I had a healthy glow rather than oiliness is next to ugliness at the end of the day, which I’m more than happy with.
Even though the product is for combatting oil, it is not drying and quite hydrating. This is a good thing. There is a misconception that oily girls do not need to hydrate, but this isn’t at all true. In fact, lack of hydration can cause your skin to overcompensate and produce more sebum. It is therefore very important to have proper skincare, especially if you have high stress and an unhealthy diet.
As for the pore shrinkage claim, didn’t really notice any difference on that, to be honest, but then again I don’t really have a pore problem.
If you have problems with sebum, I think you’d want to give these products a whirl.
The products will be available island wide from 1 June 2018. Guardian has a promotion: Buy 1 get 2nd item at 50% off. You can check them out on their website below:
