Armar had a 9 hour layover in Singapore so we met up with him in his choice of restaurants – Din Tai Fung (Parkway Parade) for lunch followed by dessert in Awfully Chocolate’s Nine Thirty cafe.
We ordered a lot of fried rice and dimsum in Din Tai Fung.
As I looked at the shrimp-filled dishes in front of me, I lamented about how sorry I was for people who were allergic to shrimp.
We also tried their special edition chilli crab xiao long bao which the waitress said they only made every 4 years. It was pretty good and not that spicy, so there was probably no need to warn Seb to be careful before eating it.
After that, Armar bought a couple of Japanese barbeque sticks from Tori Q, which was right beside Din Tai Fung, and ate it while we walked to Nine Thirty.
I couldn’t really blame him. This is normal for someone who visits a place he used to call home. This is exactly how I act whenever I visit the Philippines.
After a 10 minute walk, we arrived at Nine Thirty in Katong.
We ordered a bunch of different chocolate flavoured desserts and drinks.
The white chocolate cake really meshes well with the hei ice cream and I really loved the soft consistency of the milled crepe.
The chocolate milk tastes really good and its lightbulb container was so cute that we had to bring it home.
I really love Awfully Chocolate, by the way. It’s one of my fave desserts in Singapore.
Arlyn and I had actually come to this cafe before and the Filipino waiter gave both of us free bags even though we didn’t reach the requirements to get them.
I’m really glad I had the chance to meet up with Armar even for a short while. This makes him my third friend from abroad to meet up with for the third consecutive weekend. The first one was Ronald, second Chi. Next weekend it will be my turn to visit friends in the Philippines.
