We decided to try the newly opened Butao Ramen at Changi City Point last week.
While queuing, we excitedly looked at the menu:
When we finally got seated, we already knew what to order.
I had the tonkotsu yakibuta ramen because it’s not common. I had the black soup which is supposed to be garlicky but I really couldn’t detect much garlic in the taste, to be honest.
The ramen didn’t come with the usual soft boiled egg topping – you have to top up S$2 for it. I didn’t want to pay that, so I settled for the free boiled eggs available at each table. My teammates were surprised at how neatly I split the egg with my bare hands. 😆
Guohao wanted the soft boiled egg so he ordered the Butao special ramen. It comes with two kinds of meat and seaweed along with said egg, so it’s more worth it to get it than a standard ramen and pay for additional toppings.
We all thought the ramen was good, though the broth was slightly too salty for my taste. Still loads better than the other ramen place in Changi City Point – Ajisen. If you like authentic Japanese ramen, please do not eat in Ajisen. It’s nothing like it.
We saw a delicious-looking dessert on the menu – frozen macha smore.
It’s available only after 2pm so we had to wait before we could order it. And when we finally could, it didn’t look like the picture. 😅
The marshmallows were disappointingly not as melty. Ah well, expectations vs reality, as always!
But while we didn’t care for the marshmallows, I have to say that the matcha ice cream is superb. It really tastes like pure matcha and not just green tea.
By the way did you know those two are not the same? Matcha is a kind of green tea, yes, but not all green teas are as potent as matcha.
And that concludes this review!
