It is Jemma’s birthday today. She is overseas at the moment so I advanced her birthday surprise last Friday at the office.

This is perfect for her because (1) “Ma” means “horse” in Mandarin and it’s part of her name and (2) her expression is “ay kabayo” which is Tagalog for “oh horse.”
When I explained this to my Singaporean teammates, they couldn’t wrap their heads around why anyone would ever say such a phrase.
So I found this through Google to convince them that it’s legit:
But when I showed it to them they were more intrigued with “Bahala na si Batman.” Below explains its origins.
Later that day when my teammate Guohao and I were on our way home, we ran into Joc, who is a Filipino.
“Enjoy your weekend!” she said to us.
“Bahala na si Batman!” Guohao replied, much to her surprise and amusement. 😆
