I was surprised to discover that there are a lot of Filipino podcasts around. You can check out the Podcast PH website or google “Filipino podcast” if you’re interested in finding them.
I love listening to podcasts. People have different preferences on this. For me, I like podcasts that are well produced and polished that I ideally can learn something from. I am not a fan of long rambling live radio type podcasts that a lot of Filipino podcasts seem to be.
So after sampling a lot, I’ve decided that these are my top Filipino podcasts, in alphabetical order.
Adulting with Joyce Pring
The How-To’s of your 20’s, by a way 20-something, traversing through life expectantly, and with gusto!
I’m way past my 20s but Joyce is a joy to listen to; she has a really great voice and is so articulate. Besides, even those above their 20s can still have takeaways from her talks with her guests.
After 30 with Cara Eriguel
A 30 something, reminding you to take deep breaths, and live with gratitude, as we talk love, life, fear, relationships, career, sex, food, money, good books, and how life is so much different and oddly the same, After 30.
Cara hosts for a living, so she has a great speaking voice and talks so confidently. As a thirty-something myself, I find her topics to be relatable.
Banana Q: a Filipino Flavored Podcast
Rey and Dee have been Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) for over a decade, with experiences living in Singapore, Japan, and Hong Kong. They answer questions using their own experiences as Filipinos through funny, informative, yet oddly entertaining conversations. Info-tainment at its finest!
Okay, so that’s our podcast LOL. Sorry to toot my own horn, but if I’m being honest, our podcast is my top Filipino podcast because it’s the one that I listen to the most. 😅
But aside from that, I have to say that it is exactly the kind of podcast I love listening to, anyway, and that is by design – we put a lot of effort into making it that way.
If I’m not to be believed because of my bias, read our listeners’s rave reviews. If a podcaster who is part of a podcast network thinks we’re the one of the best produced Filipino podcasts, we must be doing something right.
Lagim: a Filipino True Crime Podcast
Lagim Podcast brings you stories of crimes from the Philippines. Lagim is a Filipino word that means dread/terror. Every two weeks Filipino-German host, Christine Abrigana, takes a close look at infamous and not so known cases that have certainly given Filipinos that feeling of fear and dread. If you need a true crime fix Filipino-style, then please follow, subscribe and listen to Lagim.
If you’re a fan of true crime and interested in those that are specifically in the Philippines, tune in to this informative podcast.
Lagim is relatively new but has already raked in tens of thousands of streams, which is a testament to its quality.
Langga Speaks
‘Langga’ [lang.gâ.] means ‘Beloved’ in Ilonggo/Hiligaynon, one of the gazillion Filipino dialects. Raising a family as Filipino expats in Dubai is not as simple as it may seem. Join show hosts, Apple and Jeric Defante, for downright honest conversations and full-packed laugh marathons as they share about family, faith and everything in between!
I like the soothing voices of Jeric and Apple. I also like their insightful episodes which I usually get lessons from, like I’m getting a free seminar. Also, Jeric likes to sing random songs, which is always a bonus in my book.
Quaranthing
As millions stay indoors during the pandemic, this narrative vodcast filmed by the actors, feature fictional love stories that have emerged during the lockdown. Bibo Reyes and Gab Pangilinan star in the first installment entitled “Love Me, Hater.”
I really loved their season one – Love Me, Hater. It had such an intelligent script that even had me rethink the way I view things.
While you can listen to this as a normal podcast, it’s better to watch this on video, so you can see their acting as well.
Season 2 – “Call You Mine” was so disappointing, though. I found the leading lady to be too unlikable; I don’t know if having someone else play her would have salvaged it or it was just the story that was not good.
That Broke Pinay
Ang financial podcast ng babaeng gastadora at walang kaalam-alam sa pagmamanage ng pera! This is for every Filipino na ayaw umamin na gastador sila!
As a shopaholic, I found this to be very relatable. There are so many podcasts that give “financial advice” that isn’t reachable for the average Pinoy; not everybody is into financial independence and investments. This one has a refreshingly realistic yet still educational take on finances.
Wake Up with Jim and Saab
Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona started one of the first local podcasts back in 2018. From debates about trashy reality shows to talking about the importance of voter registration, they have cultivated quite an engaged community who have dubbed them their /podparents/. Jim and Saab may be the ones doing the talking but they definitely make their listeners feel heard.
They are fun to listen to, which must be the reason why in 2020, they became one of only nine podcasts in the Philippines to become Spotify Exclusive.
